Read moreWent for dinner with high expectations! We had passed this place few times & said we would have dinner on one of the evenings. There's indoors & outdoors seating.
We were seated immediately. Looked thru the menu. Pasta of the day was seafood linguine...ordered by my friend. For veg there was homemade pasta with cacio e pepe sauce & served with a poached egg. As that pasta is served al-dante, staff suggested to swap it with linguini. Requested to omit the egg & replace it with sauted mushrooms - it was denied. The staff said she will provide sliced olives.
The place was relatively empty when we went, slowly it filled up. Guests after us got their food before us. We watched for a while, it was happening to most tables. Upon enquiry, said those were appetisers, thus served first. We need to wait for main course. With few more enquiries on our food, the Manager served us French fries on the house & told us that we'll be served shortly. After more than 30 min, the seafood pasta arrived. The cacio e pepe linguini was still not served.
Still waiting, and even the patron at next table enquired on his meal. 15 min later the veg pasta was served - just linguini, diluted & unflavoured sauce, 2 pieces of wilted kale & olives on the side. Tasted it & all i could get was the flavour of plain pasta. It was simply flat!
Called the manager & told him that it has no flavour! He was kind & agreed to swap with another dish... appreciated that. Requested for the roasted cauliflower with curry sauce. The Manager wanted to leave the pasta dish with us....thanked him for the offer, declined it, of course. The reason for not having it was that it had no flavour!
So the wait starts again, after 10 - 15 min asked for the roasted cauliflower dish, the response was it's still being made.
The Manager came again, with a salad dish. By then the hunger pangs had died & it was frustrating to keep asking for your food. Told him that we don't want the salad & to cancel the order as we have waited too long. He apologised profusely & appreciate his effort to make up for the shortcomings. He offered to waive the full bill, declined his offer & said we will pay for what was ordered & consumed. He did insist to waive the bill...disagreed & we paid!
The basic principle should be first in, first out. It seemed like the kitchen just wanted to clear the appetisers & then embark on the main course!
Hope the management would look into this. We were out the whole day & were having celebration over dinner...and it was...
Read moreI recently visited Bartolo Restaurant with high expectations, excited to try their much-acclaimed tiramisu. However, my experience fell short of the anticipation. Upon being served, the first thing that caught my eye was the presentation, or rather the lack thereof. The tiramisu had an unappealing crack down the middle and was rather unceremoniously placed on the plate, resembling more a hunk of lard than a delicately crafted dessert.
The taste further compounded my disappointment. Instead of the rich, creamy, and coffee-infused delight that tiramisu traditionally is, what I tasted was far removed from these expectations. The flavor was oddly reminiscent of rotting breadfruit, a far cry from the dessert’s signature taste profile. It seemed as though the essence of tiramisu - its light, airy mascarpone, and the subtle kick of espresso, had been lost, leaving behind a taste that was more akin to fermented fruit than a dessert.
I had heard great reviews about the tiramisu at Bartolo and was genuinely looking forward to the experience. However, based on this visit, it seems the dessert did not live up to its reputation. It's possible that my visit was an off day for the restaurant, and I am open to that possibility. Nonetheless, it was disheartening to find such a gap between expectation and reality, especially with a dessert as classic as tiramisu.
I hope this feedback is taken as constructive, as I believe every dining experience is an opportunity for improvement. I look forward to seeing how Bartolo Restaurant can evolve and perhaps one day revisit to find a tiramisu that matches...
