First, I want to mention that I’m very surprised to see so many recent 5 star reviews from Indonesians that feel very nonspecific and generic. I’m especially surprised given that I never saw any Indonesian guests during my 3-night stay…
Back to my review, I stayed in the Moon House for 3 nights during our honeymoon, for context. Let’s start with the pros. The service and staff are simply wonderful and they work hard to ensure you are as comfortable as you can be in the elements of nature. The views and the room are beautiful. We were located right on the river and had our own private natural pool. The resort is a fun little wonderland where you can cross several bamboo bridges and the rivers to explore the natural pools. Breakfast is complimentary and the food is good. They provide sunscreen, bug spray, and umbrellas in addition to the typical toiletries. It’s a truly unique place to stay and I think in other circumstances may have been perfect.
For the awareness of travelers, you have to set the expectation that you will be in nature. The wildlife didn’t bother us. The one related element that made our stay uncomfortable was that our bed always felt moist due to the humidity caused by the constant rain. This is a natural trade off given the openness of the Moon House structure to the outside. This might be avoided by coming during the dry season or getting a room that is less exposed to the outdoors. In other situations, I may have been fine with this, but it wasn’t the most comfortable during our honeymoon and made it difficult to fully relax at night. I don’t know what the resort can do to remedy this other than potentially getting less porous materials (rather than sheets) for the bed enclosure.
Also be aware that there’s a significant amount of stairs to navigate throughout the property, but the staff will move all of your luggage for you.
Other than that, I would recommend expanding the food menu. Breakfast felt like mostly western food, when I would have loved to have more Indonesian options.
Given these drawbacks, the nightly rate felt steep.
All in all, an alright experience given the great service and truly unique stay, with the most obvious downsides attributable to moistness of our lodging (not sure how to fix that) and lack of food options (that can be fixed). I think I would have been happier if I’d stayed 2 nights rather than 3, as it was still a lovely property. Thank you all for your...
Read moreWe can’t even begin to express our gratitude towards the Bambu Indah team for making our jungle fairytale wedding dreams come true!
When I found this hotel years ago, it skyrocketed to my “must visit” list. As we were looking for venues to hold our elopement (turned mini wedding with 13 friends), it became obvious very quickly this felt like us. Bambu Indah’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices was a huge draw. From growing ingredients on site for their delicious meals, to the natural fresh water pools, and the support that they show to the local community, Bambu Indah is pioneering eco-luxury living.
Our stay in the treehouse exceeded our expectations from the moment we arrived. The architecture was stunning, bamboo utilized so creatively, and the air conditioning in the bedroom was perfect for the warm nights. The staff welcomed us with open arms and made us feel so special. They happily catered to our dietary needs (we’re both vegan) and provided some of the most tasty meals we had throughout our month in Indonesia. We could happily spend all day down by the pools eating mushroom skewers and sipping on flavourful cocktails.
Planning a wedding from the other side of the world comes with its own unique challenges. We were the first wedding at Bambu Indah In 5 years and didn’t know what to expect going into our special day. We put our trust in Meri and her team to deliver a beautiful set up, and they exceeded all of our expectations! The attention to detail; from having flowers around the tree trunks, multiple petal walkways, hanging marigold strings all across the property, chandeliers of greenery, to the little details on the chairs and napkins at dinner, all of it left us completely in awe! Meri anticipated any possible needs we might have before they arose and the day ran so smoothly.
As beautiful as Bambu Indah is, the kindness of the staff is what makes it truly special. If you are considering visiting Ubud, there is no better place to stay! We can’t wait to return one day in the future and re-live some of the magic we felt in...
Read moreSuch a scam. I’ve been traveling everywhere in Indonesia, cheap and expensive places. This is on the expensive side of course. I never had such a bad value for my money. First, booking was confusing, they want you to pay in advance for two nights but the website doesn’t work and steals a lot of time. They can’t just do with a credit card like anywhere in the world. Second, there were very stressful work noises during the time I stayed. I said several times I wanted to go to my room and rest and the stressful person who « welcomed » me was only trying to gain time and keep me busy because my room was not ready. He kept trying to sell me things like drinks and massages. He asked me to sit at the restaurant. I thought I’d have something for free because of the wait, but no, they tried to sell me more stuff. The place is nice, cute bungalows and treehouses, but not worth the price. Specially because, unluckily again, the swimming pools were on maintenance when I was there. For three days. Loud machine noises and power cuts. Again, this would be ok in a place for 6€ a night. Not 600! Service was below anywhere else in Bali, in the restaurant or in the bar, where I’ve been told: ‘see you in hell’, after they tried to scam me again. Their advertising is false. They say you have a butler in the room (I chose the room for this reason) but they have no idea about it. I never slept so bad in Bali, from works to children to swimming pool cleaning noises, going through insect bites even with repellant. And the bad memories last. I saw rusty stains on the sheets and this was no good news. And the next evening, what I was scared of appeared: bed bug bites!
If you want to see the place, maybe go for lunch (even if food and drink were so-so, and service careless and useless). But by no mean sleep there. Big big scam. There are so many gorgeous places in Indonesia where you can actually sleep, for much cheaper, with...
