Despite a positive recommendation, we had a thoroughly disappointing visit. The food was average, the service was terrible and the ambiance was noisy with lots infants running unattended through the restaurant. We arrived at 7pm on a Friday evening. Despite the restaurent not being full or overly busy, noone greeted us at the entrance. After waiting for 10 minutes we finally approached the staff and informed them we had a reservation and would like a table. They could not find our reservation and when we showed them the confirmation on our phone, the grudgingly showed us a table without an apology. After being seated it was another long wait before we asked the staff to take our order. I chose the Jackfruit Rendang which is listed as their “most popular” dish and was told they dont have any. Again with no apology. So we made alternate choices and waited some more for the food to arrive. The food was very average but it was served by a staff that was not very engaged, never smiled and clearly looked like they wanted to be anywhere else but here. There were several families with a lot of children who were noisy and left unattended to roam freely around the restaurant while their parents ate. When we asked to see the manager we were told that there is no manager on duty until the next morning. Clearly there was some problem with the restaurant staff which contributed to a most disappointing experience overall. There are so many wonderful restaurents in the area and I would suggest avoiding Mana and...
Read moreWe stayed at this accommodation for about 5 days. The villa is spacious and airy with a great living room area for everyone to chill and have meals. There’s a fridge and a kitchen sink but no stove. Rooms are spacious and come with a safe, clothing rack, fans etc. As it’s an eco hotel, the buildings are largely open air and there is no air con. That’s fine, as it’s what we anticipated and packed lightly to keep cool. Soap, shampoo and conditioner is provided. Mana’s staff are very friendly and helpful, they were accommodating during our trip. The owners are also very friendly if you run into them. Mana kitchen is also convenient if you are lazy to travel to Ubud Sentral.
Our only huge issue here was the severe mosquito/sandfly bites that some of us got during our stay. Although there are mosquito nets, they are not very effective. The natural mosquito repellent is also mostly essential oils, so it’s not very effective at keeping insects away. Take note if you are allergic to insects or if you are bringing small children! Insects will also randomly turn up in the room if you leave the doors open. These include grasshoppers, centipedes, leeches from the garden outside. Overall, a unique eco and sustainable experience with a nice ambience except for...
Read moreSaw this place in a magazine, so thot to try with the kids to show them about sustainability. Didnt expect it is for hard core adventurers.First, the real place isnt like the photos shown. They are more run down and just not as pretty. It was built many years ago, so it is quite old now. Expect old amenities, old facilities.Second, the water heater is using gas not electricity. It means it’ll be either very hot or very cold, nothing in between, unless you keep adjusting it. I managed to take a quick shower with warm water by keep adjusting it while showering. My son didnt and he gave up trying:DThird, we didnt expect there were so many insects in the villa. Big black ants, moths, spiders, wasp, flies, mosquitos. They were on the bed, on the floor, flying around. Too much more than we could bear. I could understand this is eco-hotel, they want to encourage people to live with zero waste, so they use water gallon instead of water bottles. But somehow after using the water gallon in the room to rinse the glass, I had diarrhea 🤣 Should have figured out the hygiene level after seeing those insectsI am sure the staffs tried their best to accomodate, but it just didnt work for our family. We can do camping & glamping, yet...
