Only go to the hostel if you’re a “mountaineer”. You will not get a decent sleep at this hostel no matter how many nights you stay. People are coming and going everyday who climb Mount Batur and they get up to “get ready” for it around 1am (when they should’ve got their things ready the night before) and this means putting the main light on and opening the very loud and squeaky lockers. Then they leave at 2am and sometimes forget to turn the light that they left on, off. This happened 2 nights in a row- I had 4 nights booked which I couldn’t change within 7 days of arriving otherwise I would have to pay the full amount anyway (this policy is very unfair for travellers who don’t know what they are doing most of the time and are just going with the flow. It offers no flexibility, you could miss your flight/ have delays and not be able to get to the hostel and you would be forced to pay the whole amount (which isn’t cheap at all). Or you could have Bali belly in a different area and feel too weak to come on the day you have booked- but you will still get charged the full amount, you can’t even ask to try and change some dates. The vibes in the hostel are very different to any I’ve been to before, nobody really talks to you and it’s silence in the hostel 24/7 most of the time except for the music they have on. The shower and toilets are a walk through the pool area away (this is very irritating at night and if you ever go for a shower you have to walk past everyone who stares at you in silence when you if you are walking back in a towel) and there are only 5 of each showers and toilets for everyone in the entire hostel. The sun goes from the hostel at around 3/4 so after a day of activities you come back to sit in the sun and it is all shade. There is nothing around the area except for a few cafes but no restaurants for dinner and not next to any bars, you have to get a grab every time you want to go somewhere like the main centre is about 10 mins away on a moped. The breakfast is good and the staff are friendly. I ended up checking out 2 days early and losing 2 nights of money due to their policy. It was worth it as I could finally get some sleep in the peaceful and...
Read moreI originally booked one night but then extended for four more nights because the place was beyond amazing. This place is less of a hostel and feels more like a hotel. The dorms are well lit, large and and airy. The beds are huge and mattresses are super comfy and thick. The pictures of this place are a genuine representation of the place. They have free yoga in the morning and scheduled free massages during the day by the pool. What more could one ask for? The common area consist of a pool flanked by two large bayside lounges where you can sit and chill comfortably. This is perfect for the solo traveler as there is ample room to be alone or have a chat to others naturally. The whole hostel is immaculate. They have built this with a high attention to detail. The showers and bathroom facilities are large and the shower heads are like rain showers. I tried four main dishes and they were all on point. Each dish was fresh and colorful. The menu isn't extensive which is a good thing as they focus on quality rather quantity. I tried the tuna poke bowl, schnitzel, chicken fettuccine and the ubud special burger and was very impressed with with the flavors and presentation. The staff was caring and were always willing to give advice and travel tips. They genuinely wanted to assist. They kindly organized the Mt Batur volcano climb and white water rafting for us. If you are coming to Ubud I wholeheartedly can't recommend a better place to stay, eat, chill and explore. I will definitely be...
Read moreOverall a good stay, in a very nice hostel with lots to offer including large beds and well kept facilities. One issue however was that bathrooms were a long way to walk in the middle of the night from the upstairs rooms. But overall the place was excellent with great food options and it was by all accounts a nice place to be.
However, one staff member in particular took it upon himself to not contact myself when I made it obvious to him in particular that I lost my AirPods. He instead pocketed them, cleaned them and removed them from my Apple ID. I had to drive 3 hours total to retrieve them from his house and was given no such apology from him but some excuse that he was keeping them safe, clearly not suggested by them being removed from my Apple ID and them being wiped. I do not know his name but he is a receptionist with glasses and an earring. On the other hand, I would like to commend the professionalism of Surya and his other colleagues in helping me track down the AirPods. Even though it took a while they acted in a manner befitting of the £20 a night of the Kuna. But BEWARE of the shady employee who essentially stole my AirPods and was looking to either sell or keep them judging by the condition.
Despite this, the hostel was excellent and I had no complaints but this person is not to be trusted and if you lose stuff he is the first person to be...
