Not sure where to even start this review because everything was amazing. That’s the baseline - everything was amazing. The only thing I can do to top that is to shout-out what I found my absolute highlights to be.
Primarily, the highlight of Potato Head is the impeccable staff. There simply is no Potato Head without the fantastic staff who I encountered and befriended during my stay.
My favorite place to hang out every evening until closing was Sunset Park. Astha, Andre, Kipley, and Artha were familiar and friendly faces almost every evening, and it was so fun seeing them make the drinks, engage in conversation with guests, and work together at the bar. The sunset view was unbeatable from that rooftop as well, and I appreciated how it was not as crowded or congested as the Beach Club downstairs. It was almost as if Sunset Park was the spot where the “cool kids” knew where to hang out. The long layout of the bar was so sleek and fun for people watching, and the intimacy of the bar was perfect for the vibe. This was definitely my favorite area to be in all of Potato Head every night both as a guest, and even some other nights when I was staying in other places.
In the time that I did spend at the Beach Club, I was so pleased with the level of attentive service even in such a busy area. Marna was working the bar late in the night when my friend, who was another guest, and I were having drinks. He found out it was her birthday and that she wanted a particular pandan cocktail that was only available at Kaum. Even though Kaum was already closed, he was so kind to go upstairs and get the necessary drink ingredients for her specially requested birthday cocktail as well as a small chocolate birthday tart. That was such a sweet touch that she and I both really appreciated.
Breakfast every morning was also a dream - sitting on the daybeds with just other hotel guests and enjoying the pool and ocean view while being served delicious food was something I looked forward to getting out of bed every morning for. Marta was so hospitable during breakfast - when I told him I had an upset stomach, he brought me recommended drinks to aid, and the other staff like Koka and Farae/Ferrari were also pleasant to chat with during breakfast and always remembered my name.
The other highlight of my stay was the offerings that Potato Head has for guests. Primarily, my favorite was the super fun Jamu making workshop that Dhari led so well. I really enjoyed that Potato Head has a multitude of options throughout the day for guests to interact with other guests and staff while learning about Balinese food and beverage, the sustainability practices of Potato Head, and participating in health and wellness classes. I made friends with other guests attending these workshops and yoga classes, which is really a huge plus especially as a solo traveler.
Lastly, the bedsheets were the most comfortable sheets I have ever been in in my entire lifetime. Period.
To conclude this ridiculously long and positive review, I think something that Potato Head is doing very right, besides the obvious things of having unbeatable architecture, design, aesthetic, and a hip vibe, is the fact that their staff actually feel like your friends. Some other older traditional luxury resorts have a more stiff feeling where the staff seem so detached from the guests. But at Potato Head, the hospitable and kind service is only accentuated more by the fact that the people working there are real people who you can connect with and get to know on a personal level in conversation which makes your stay feel more personalized.
Tldr: I just got home from Bali twenty-four hours ago, and I am already figuring out when my next trip to Bali and Potato Head will be. Staff is top. Sunset Park is the best kept secret. And if you don’t stay here, you’re insanely...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived at Potato Head, we were welcomed with warmth and a strong sense of purpose. The eco-conscious ethos of the resort is clear from the start, with thoughtful gifts like a reusable tote bag and drinks tumbler provided at check-in—both stylish and practical reminders of their sustainability mission.||One of our favorite touches throughout the stay was the warm greeting of “welcome home” every time we returned. It was genuine and set the tone for the friendly, personalized service we experienced across the resort.||The team at the beach club were incredibly attentive, always making sure we were comfortable and well looked after. It never felt overbearing—just seamless, thoughtful hospitality at every turn.||Breakfast was a real highlight each morning. Served à la carte across three venues (rather than buffet-style, to avoid waste), the menus were extensive and allowed us to order as much as we liked. As vegetarians, we were especially pleased with the variety and flexibility. The staff were always happy to tweak dishes to suit our preferences, and dietary requirements were handled with care and ease. A special thank-you to Devi and Trisna for looking after us so warmly each day.||The resort also offers a wide range of thoughtfully curated activities, including workouts, cocktail-making, and workshops that explore Balinese traditions. One standout was the “Follow the Waste” tour, which showcases the resort’s innovative efforts toward becoming a zero-waste operation. The tour ends with a hands-on experience where you can create your own eco-conscious souvenir to take home—both fun and inspiring.||Our suite was spacious and beautifully designed, complete with a large bathroom, ample wardrobe space, and homely touches like a kitchen area and candles. Each day, we returned to find a freshly made sweet treat waiting in our room—a lovely daily surprise.||The in-room bar was another highlight, stocked with rum, gin, vodka, and mixers. You could either make your own drinks or call on one of the resort’s bartenders. Huge thanks to Rahadi and Feri—Rahadi went above and beyond when we mentioned how much we love espresso martinis. He surprised us by returning with a handwritten recipe and a bottle of coffee liqueur so we could enjoy them in our room. That level of personal service really stood out.||Communication throughout our stay was effortless, with 24/7 WhatsApp access to the concierge team for booking activities or asking questions. The in-room check-in process meant we could start our holiday straight away, skipping the usual front desk formalities.||The location is another big plus—surrounded by great restaurants, bars, and shops, and we always felt safe exploring the area on foot. Booking through Expedia also came with resort credit, which we’d completely forgotten about, so that was a nice surprise!||When it was time to leave, we were gifted a bracelet made from recycled materials—another thoughtful detail reflecting Potato Head’s commitment to sustainability.||We fully enjoyed all six nights of our stay and felt genuinely embraced as part of the Potato Head family. It’s rare to find a place that delivers luxury, authenticity, and purpose so effortlessly. We can’t...
Read moreWithin our 3 week trip in Bali we stayed in 5 different premium hotels and this one is definitely the best. We stayed for 4 nights and let me explain why I rated 3.
Some benefits: It has the best specialty coffee in hotel breakfasts. Me and my wife are fun of high end coffee and this was the only place where you could enjoy top notch specialty coffee. Going wasteless is a big benefit and nice to see art installations and onsite waste recycling tours. The service staff is superior and very nice. A la carte breakfasts are top notch, rooms are very nice and new, cleanness 9 out if 10. Hotel itself can be considered as one of the greatest designer hotels we have ever been to. Beds are super comfortable with double pillows and advanced cooling system (and smart construction as you dont get cold from AC, it doesnt blow to bed). there are plenty of activities and very comfortable beach daybeds. Creativity in hotel activities is top end.
Disadvantages: We stayed between June 28 to July 2. On the second day of our stay electricity of our room went down and we asked reception to fix it. They send some staff members which did not figure out to fix it. Manager told us we need to switch the room and arranged a new room. As we had 2 suitcases, 1 year old little baby, it took more than 2 hours for me to collect all the luggage (including baby food, wardrobes, our toilet amenities, etc) and bring it to the new room and unpack all again. When you pay over $400 for a night in such a hotel, you should not expect something like this. No compensation was done for ruining whole our lost evening from 20:00 to 22:30. Manager told us he will send someone to help us the move, but they dont sent anyone. I did it all myself just going back and force between rooms (management can check recordings, rooms 238 and 267). Also upon checkin they upgraded our room to bamboo view for free, which was very nice, but after the issue they downgraded back to sunrise (what we initially paid for) without telling anything :D on the next day no single reactions at all, like nothing happened. I think this was truly unprofessional. I am operating a business similar to potato head, we do upgrade our customers or at least compensate with nice activities when such things happen. Because you are not a typical 3 star hotel. You charge a lot and should do your best so your customers do not waste time, and if such things happen, you should think about compensation even though your customers would not ask for it (we never asked for compensation, as on such kind of premium hotels that should be done from management). I am rating 3 stars only for poor educated management staff, otherwise the rest was very good. I hope this review will improve their hotel service, so future guests will not waste single hour when such things happen. there is no kids playground but you have plenty of space and rooms to make at least one. I suggest having kids room. No electrical treadmill, better to upgrade gym equipment. But thats not a huge deal as there is a nice beach to run outside.
UPDATE: Hotel was very kind to get in touch and tell that they value the feedback and will do their beat for not repeating such cases...
