Disappointing.... The building is old and very hot. The rooms are big. The airconditioning is not build-in, but a small one on wheels. The airco is pointed right at the bed and is not movable. It makes a lot of noise and doesn't get the room really fresh. The tube fell off the moment we turned it on... We saw that it had been attached with tape. We slept very bad due to the noise and cold air pointed right at our backs. When we wanted to close the window, the curtain fell off. The fridge was very old and a bit dirty. It didn't cool down: the water that we put inside was still at room temperature the day after. There is a toilet, bidet, showel, lavabo, laundry machine in the bathroom. The laundry machine is placed so close to the bidet that you cannot really sit on it easily.
Furthermore, there were troubles at the check-in. The opening hours of reception were 17:00-20:30, but there was no one present at the reception. The entrance door of the residence was locked. We had contacted the hotel through message stating our time of arroval. Anyways, we had to call a cell number and waited 20 minutes before the receptionist arrived. He was rude, said almost nothing; not even 'ciao'.
Bad bad bad experience....
Read moreThe Vanvitella is about 5 minutes walk away from the town centre and 2 minutes from the port. We stayed there to investigate Ancona and surrounding towns and couldn't have chosen better. The apartment, which is really just one room plus bathroom, was decently furnished with good cooking facilities. It was a large room and the bed was good and the bathroom was very good. There was little in the way of character but as a place to call home for a week it had all we needed. The road up to the Cathedral and the Archeological Museum ran close by and both are very much worth seeing. The hike to the Cathedral is fairly strenuous but ok if you are in decent shape. There is a bus that runs up the same road, number 7 I think, but we never saw it.||||The owner is friendly and helpful and as long as he knows when you are arriving he will be there waiting. There are bikes to borrow and decent free wi-if. Highly recommended for...
Read moreKitchen facilities make it easy to cook for ourselves and included a stove, microwave, fridge, basic dishes, pots, pans and silverware and sink. Located very close to the cruise terminal in Ancona, so it is convenient for cruisers.||||On the negative side, the microwave did not work. It sparked when turned on. Room was rather dark. Host was not there when we arrived. Cleaning woman had to let us in after a phone conversation with the owner.||||Otherwise, generally a good value. Not much to see in Ancona other than the old hilltop cathedral and the Arc of Emperor Trajan. The ancient Greek wall...
