My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights and had a truly wonderful time. The price we paid for this 4 star European hotel was fair and we would definitely stay here again! I will start out here with the positives of which there are many.
Location and views - unbelievably beautiful location on the hillside overlooking Lecco and Lake Como. Plenty of nice cafe's and restaurants along the waterfront, good bus connectivity to the city and other lake towns; it was perfect.
Front Desk staff - all were exceptionally friendly and helpful, specifically the 2 gentlemen working the majority of our days. They helped us tremendously navigate the busses, answer any and all questions about ferries and gave great recommendations for food as well.
Food and drinks - the hotel has a small lobby bar with snacks which we used a few times. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant space was pretty average as far as a hotel breakfast goes but as it was included it was really nice to have. The morning staff was friendly and the views from the restaurant were incredible.
The panorama bar and rooftop lounge was also very nice as far as views and vibe goes. Nice cocktail specials and small pizzas to order which were very tasty. This is where I would start to get into my few negatives of the stay. The staff here at the panorama lounge was less than welcoming at times. We tried to go sit for drinks a few times around 430pm but were told we needed reservations despite being nearly empty. We were instead offered a table in the grass near the road vs the lake view or said to come back in a few hours. Not a huge deal but we felt it could have been handled better.
We ate at the restaurant for dinner twice and had mixed experiences there as well. The first night was a Wednesday night and the hotel was not busy so we did not think to make a reservation. We were greeted in a less than friendly fashion by a young women who was seemingly again annoyed we had no reservation despite many many open tables. The entire time through dinner as she waited on us, we felt like we were not welcome and were very uncomfortable. Thankfully, the food was utterly amazing which made up for the service. The other staff bringing food and helping out was great, just the one waitress who did not seem to be a fan of us for some reason.
We ate at the restaurant once more (with a reservation this time) and had the same young woman waiting on us again. She again was very short with us and acted like we were bothering her by being there. We are no strangers to service in Europe but this felt very uncalled for as we were being extremely polite and did nothing to deserve this. Again the 2nd night, the food was some of the best we've had so we're not holding the service against them too bad.
Room and cleanliness - overall, good. The one we were in was slightly dated but was still very comfortable for us. One callout specifically was the shower cleanliness which had heavy buildup around the door and corner. We did bring this up when we left, but it was clearly due to time of neglect so not much a one time cleaning while we were there could have done. We did have cleaning service our room once which left dirty footprints and a lot of long black hairs in the bathroom (photo attached). They also did not replace the glassware or coffee cups in the room which we had to ask the front desk for. Again, nothing egregious but just a callout for feedback.
To summarize, I still would very much recommend this hotel and if we return to Lecco we would certainly...
Read moreWe stayed here for 4 nights in October 2024, arriving 1 day early for a group tour of Northern Italy. We stayed in room 410. The best thing about this hotel is the view of Lake Como, with Lecco and the mountains behind Lecco. This hotel is a short walk (10-15 minutes) down to the bridge across the lake into Lecco. The room has a small table and 2 chairs on our terrace (bigger than a balcony and the room 410 terrace is bigger than most at the hotel). We enjoyed the views each afternoon before dinner with a glass of wine and snacks. The room is basic, but comfortable and clean. There are electrical plugs near each side of the bed, but no USB plugs in the room. The blackout curtains on the windows are attached to the frame so they keep the room very dark at night. The shower door had a small gap between the doors so it leaked water during the shower. There is a physical key to open the door with a blank card attached to use to keep power on while in the room. I carried the key around during the days, but others on our tour left it at the front desk. The hotel workers were very friendly. The front desk was on the ground floor, but there is construction near room 410 for an alternate/replacement front desk. There was no noise from the construction process, but I could hear people in the hallway late night and the hotel staff in the morning before breakfast time. The main noise concern is there was a wedding party on the 5th floor rooftop space one evening. We were walking back to the hotel in the afternoon and could hear the music from down the street. It was loud into the night, impacting others in our group, more than us, until 11pm. The breakfast was good with many options, but the 2 coffee machines kept having issues on 2 of the mornings. We also ate dinner in the restaurant 1 night and found the food and service to be very good. There were only 12 other people in the restaurant at the time, which helped with the attentive service. We got a 3-course meal at a good price. We got an aperol spritz from the lobby bar one evening and this was the most expensive aperol spritz of our 2 week vacation. It did come with chips and crackers (as most bars provide snacks with drinks in the late afternoon) and we were able to enjoy them on our terrace with the views. We would stay here again if...
Read moreI booked Hotel Griso for two nights with my son, paying extra for what I expected to be a high-quality stay to celebrate the end of his exams. Unfortunately, our first night was ruined by both a malfunctioning air-conditioning system and the unprofessional behaviour of the receptionist, Marco.||||From the moment we arrived, the AC in our 3rd-floor room would not cool below 23°C in hot summer weather. I reported this multiple times with no meaningful response. Eventually, I had to go to reception in person. Marco came to the room, inspected it, and told me he’d be back in five minutes — he never returned. After an hour, I went to reception again, where he threw a set of keys at me and told me to “go check other rooms” which he claimed had the same 23°C temperature. When I said it was his responsibility to give me another room, he replied there were no rooms and told me to “find another hotel.” When I asked about a refund, he said “No.” When I warned I might call the police, he laughed and told me to “call whoever you want.”||||The next morning, the reception manager confirmed that the lower floors have older, less effective AC units, while floors 4 and above have newer ones. I was moved to a 4th-floor room where the AC worked perfectly at 18°C — exactly what I had needed the previous night. This completely undermines the hotel’s excuse about “eco restrictions” and shows that the solution was available all along, but deliberately withheld.||||Even during checkout, Marco was on reception and took payment in full without the courtesy of an apology. The management’s follow-up email not only refused any refund for the night we suffered through, but also dismissed the problem entirely, claiming there was nothing wrong.||||If you value respectful service, functioning facilities, and a hotel that actually cares about its guests, I strongly recommend...
