Two colleagues and I traveled to Italy from the US for a university exchange over Spring Break 2015. We spent most of our time in Ancona, but decided to spend the first weekend in Rome to experience the ancient city before our week of studying.
My colleagues thoroughly researched hotels in the center of Rome to ensure that all sights were walking distance. They ultimately decided on the BB Calamatta due to it's convenient location, great amenities, and competitive rates and made a reservation for three individual rooms.
Upon arriving in Rome after 12+ hours of traveling, we met Valerio who took us to show us our rooms. He notified us that the third room had been double booked and sincerely apologized for the inconvenience. Three tired, cranky Americans were not happy about this and thought we had to change hotels last minute.
Valerio gave us multiple suggestions for how to resolve this issue: two of us share one bedroom, two of us share an apartment that hasn't been fully transformed into a hotel room, or two of us share a room from his personal apartment. We weren't keen on the first option, considered the second option, and did not feel comfortable taking his living space. We ultimately decided to take the apartment because there were two separate beds in two separate rooms. The rooms were spacious and clean and it was heart-warming that Valerio even offered his own living space to rectify the situation.
In addition, Valerio was always available, happily gave us his email and cell phone number, drew routes on a printed map to assist us with attractions and directions, and was extremely patient when answering our questions.
I hope to return to Rome, and if/when I do, I will strongly consider staying at the BB Calamatta again! It was such a...
Read moreStarting with the check-in to check-out i had a very bad experience. My flight landed in Rome, i arranged a pickup service with the B&B, so they knew what time i will be arriving. The car was on time to pick us up. Me and my wife arrived early to find out no one is there to greet us. So we had to wait outside the building for over an hour. The cleaning crew came before the host so they let us inside the building and wait by the office. When the host came in we found out we had to wait another 40 minutes to get the room ready. Most of the rooms were empty so not sure why they didnt had the room ready before. Once we got in the room we found out its smaller then it looks. There were barely any space for us to open our luggage. The bathroom was narrow. We had to ask for a bottle of water and also some blankets as it was cold. No heating was available. To eat breakfast you have to walk to the cafe they are partner with, which is a few min walk. They have a common area, small balcony with some tables. Not at all what it looks like in picture. There was also an oven, not sure which era it was from. There was a tv in the room with italian channels only no english. No smart tv. Wifi was horrible. Couldn't connect at all as the router range didnt cover the room. The only positive about this place was proximity to all the attractions. Everything else was disappointing. All in all bad experience. This place need a...
Read moreWe had a wonderful stay at B&B Calamatta. Rome was the final leg of our European vacation, and I had been in touch with the staff as they wanted to know when to expect us. Unfortunately, the horrendous traffic caused by the strike in France caused us to miss our flight from Paris to Rome, delaying us by 12 hours. I emailed Pamela and Valerio to notify them that we would be arriving much later (after midnight!), and Pamela was so helpful in arranging us transportation that met us at the airport and took us directly to the guest house. It was so late at night but Valerio showed us to our room and got us acquainted with the building. The guest house is cozy and peaceful and our room was always clean. The location is fantastic, very close to the areas we wanted to visit. Breakfast vouchers are provided for a nearby cafe, where you can get a pastry, coffee, and juice. Pamela helped us out again by arranging a taxi service to take us to the airport when it was time to head home. Staying here felt like staying with family, it was such a warm and welcoming place to come back to each evening after exploring all day. The hospitality is exceptional and we were so grateful for all...
