I arrived in Santa Cristina in early June 2015, where the vivacious Lorenza picked me up from the bus stop and immediately made me welcome at the small, unpretentious, warm and comfortable Charme Hotel Uridl. As the hotel had not yet fully geared-up for the forthcoming summer season I had to settle for a bed & breakfast arrangement rather than half-board – but no matter as there are several very good restaurants just a short walk away. Breakfast was more than adequate and allowed me to take a self-packaged lunch on my long daily hikes.||||Armed with expert local knowledge generously provided by Lorenza and Hotel Manager Nicola Novelli, I set off each day on a new hiking route along the many and varied trails of Val Gardena, all of which are numbered and well sign-posted. It is almost impossible to get lost! In seven glorious days in the valley I managed to complete hikes in Vallunga, up the Pic (2,363m) via Col Raiser, to Seceda via Rasciesa and up the isolated and very steep Forcella la Pana (2,456m), the very scenic Friedrich August Way from Passo Sella to Rif. Sasso Piatto, the spectacular descent from Rif.Toni Demetz at Forcella del Sassolungo (2,685m) to Rif. Vicenza (keep a look out for my hat!), and finally the climactic 700m climb up Sasso Piatto (2,958m). This is one of the best walking regions in the world, and is well-deserving of its UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Simply superb! Needless to say the big bath in my room was put to good use each night upon my return from the mountains.||||Other welcome benefits included by the hotel were a Val Gardena Mobil Card, which enables free use of all buses in the valley, and free wi-fi.||||I hope that one day in the not too distant future, whilst I'm still capable of getting amongst the mountains, I can return to Val Gardena and...
Read moreWORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU REALLY THINK TWICE BEFORE CHOOSING THIS HOTEL. MOST OF WHAT THEY DESCRIBE IS NOT REAL. SHEETS ARE DISGUSTING NOT EVEN A ONE STAR HOTEL OFFERS SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THEY HAD HOLES EVERYWHERE. THE TOWELS WERE ALL RIPPED. MY ROOM DESCRIBED A DELUXE OR SUPERIOR AND IT WAS SO SMALL THAT WE COULD NOT OPEN THE LUGGAGES, AND THEY DO NOT CARE, THEY WILL NOT SOLVE YOUR ISSUES, THEY JUST CARELESS AND ASK YOU TO PAY ANYWAYS 100%. WE HAD TO CALL THE POLICE IN OUR CHECK OUT BECAUSE THE OWNER MR. NICOLA, NEVER WANTED TO SHOW UP, HE KEPT TELLING THE GIRLS AT FRONT DESK THAT HE WILL NOT COME TO SOLVE. WHAT A NIGHTMARE THIS HOTEL. NO ONE TO HELP AT ALL. THEN HE TELLS ALL HIS GUESTS THAT HE HAS A DEAL WITH A COMPANY FOR SKI PASSES AND RENTALS AND GUESS WHAT? THAT COMPANY IS HIS AND HE DOES NOT MENTION THAT AND RIP YOU OFF. THIS GUY IS THE WORSE. WHAT A THIEF. WE WERE 11 PEOPLE AND SPENT MORE THAN 5000 EUROS AND ASKED HIM THE WHOLE WEEK TO COME TO THE HOTEL AND FACE ALL THE ISSUES AND HE REFUSED TO. HE KNEW HE HAD TO GIVE US A DISCOUNT FOR ALL THE ISSUES AND BAD TIME WE HAD, AND HE WAS AFRAID TO SHOW UP. LATER ON WE SAW A COUPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS, THEY WERE JUST LEAVING THE HOTEL VERY DISAPPOINTED. ALSO VERY IMPORTANT, ELEVATORS DO NOT STOP IN THE FLOOR WHERE THE ROOMS ARE LOCATED, THEY STOP HALF WAY EITHER UP OR DOWN, SO YOU HAVE TO CARRY LUGGAGES TO GO UP OR DOWN. A DISASTER. PLEASE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GREAT VACATION THIS WILL TURN YOUR DREAM VACATION IN A...
Read moreThe hotel is housed in a beautiful historic building in the quiet old centre of St. Cristina, near the church. The rooms are very nice. With our group we had 3 rooms, all different in size. Very good breakfast with good bread and yoghurt. Good dinner with a nice selection of wine, in a cozy ambience. The hotel runs a free shuttle bus to the ski lift. We usually took the 9.00h van. The last pick up from the ski lift is at 16.30 h, a bit early for us, most of the time we were too late. There are regular busses which run not very frequent to/from the church. By foot, with skis/skiboots, it is a 20-25 minutes hike from the skilift. Nice hotel bar, it closes rather early in the evening though. Free Wi-Fi & a big storage room for skis and boots. The staff is very helpful. The owner however is less helpful. We had an issue about an extra blanket one of us asked for and which the owner initially refused to provide (!), but later the staff handled it just fine. Overall a nice hotel and we...
