My husband and I enjoyed an unforgettable stay at Hotel L 'Antico Pozzo in early January. We can not say thank you enough to the owners ,Mariangela, Elisabetta ,& Emanuele , along with Massimo , the receptionist , & Ciria , the housekeeper . Their wonderful Italian hospitality made us feel welcome & well taken care of during our entire stay. The hotel's website has great information and photos. Hotel L' Antico Pozzo opened in September 1990 after the careful restorations & renovations of Palazzo Tamburini , a 15th century palace, were completed . After reading about the impressive history of the hotel & seeing the beautiful photos, I immediately emailed requesting a reservation . A prompt response gave me the good news that the Dante Room was available ! The Dante Room was even more beautiful than the photos ! It was spacious, tastefully decorated & furnished , with a gorgeous & comfortable bed .The bathroom shower was great too. Even with all the modern conveniences , the Dante Room had a aura of a bygone era . Thank you to Ciria for making sure everything was immaculate each day . We appreciated her doing such a wonderful job . We slept well and awakened to the heavenly aroma of pastries baking in the hotel kitchen. Freshly made each morning ,the pastries along with homemade cakes were scrumptious ! The dining room was very elegant with linen covered tables set with pretty china .In the past it was the palace's ballroom Sala Rosa . A variety of sweet & savory items including ; the luscious pastries & cakes, yogurt, fruit, cereal, organic cheeses, Tuscan meats, to mention some . Also omelettes and coffee could be made for you .Our cappuccino & caffe macchiato were prepared perfectly . Everything was fresh &delicious ! We definitely enjoyed a very relaxing meal and never were rushed . It was the perfect start to each day ! We appreciated how helpful Emanuele was the day we needed a ride to a wine tasting nearby. It was raining that morning, and it would have taken at least 20 minutes to walk to the winery . Emanuele kindly drove us there and also back to the hotel when we had finished . We really appreciated him being so kind. Also the hotel made arrangements for a driver to take us to Florence on our last morning . We appreciated this too . San Gimignano was especially enjoyable with out the crowds . We had a very short walk to the Duomo, Museums and restaurants & an a very nice one next door that we enjoyed twice . The 2 pizzerias were really good too. The daytime views of the countryside were breathtaking . We made sure to see the towers at night too , & what a spectacular sight ! This medieval town is simply magical ! We are very thankful for our unforgettable stay at Hotel L' Antico Pozzo ! Grazie mille to all the fantastic people...
Read moreI experienced the most hospitable, professional, and bend-over-backward-to-help service I have ever encountered. I had registered for a truffle hunt followed by a cooking lesson at a location outside of town. I had planned to walk there and enjoy the countryside, but with arriving in the middle of the week I lost track of the days. I panicked when I realized that not only had I missed the truffle hunt but was close to missing the cooking lesson as well. Emanuele was exceedingly helpful in calling the property and explaining what had happened. And then because there were no Ubers or taxis to hire, he took the time to get the hotel's van and then drove me to the location of the cooking lesson. Please understand, as many places are experiencing staffing shortages like Hotel L'Antico Pozzo, he truly did not have the time to drive me there, but nevertheless, he made the time. Confusing the days and time was entirely my fault, but Emanuele's kind gesture allowed me to continue enjoying a beautiful vacation. Emanuele and his sisters were always busy making sure that their guests were comfortable and well-fed. The buffet breakfast always offered an array of delicious food which I often ate in the beautiful courtyard, and my room was spotless and charming. I hope to return to San Gimignano within a year or so and can guarantee that I will be staying at Hotel...
Read moreThe location is all this place has going for it and the bed/pillows were decent. The breakfast was good, but not memorable. Not sure how this place gets such high reviews unless they all stayed in much nicer rooms. Room 15 was horrible since it backed up to a dirty stairwell. If this is an option it should be communicated in advance and should be discounted. The AC is outdated and barely cooled, so we woke up in the middle of the night in sweat with a thin sheet. The bathroom vent would take hours to pull the moisture out after a shower. The smell in the lobby and other parts of the building is pretty rough and uninviting. While it is a very old building some air fresher could make a big improvement. Also, I feel like they are using the fact that this is an historic building to not update anything. At a minimum the AC unit should be replaced with a modern wall AC unit. Parking is inconvenient as are most locations in this area but the pricing details were not communicated in advance (pay then bring their parking pass card back to the front desk) to save $5. Paying the city taxes in cash at checkout should also be communicated better. Dropping the keys off upon leaving is also kind of silly but is convenient as they attach a huge tassel to it so you wouldn't want to carry...
