This was not our first trip to Venice and we like to ring the changes for places to stay. Dorsoduro has a fond place in our hearts so we were delighted to find this quirky little hotel on the interwonderweb.||||The room was actually a suite, with excellent views over the Giudecca and the main shipping canal. There are few things on this planet more enjoyable than watching the comings and goings of Venetian canal from your window, preferably with a little bit of wine on board. That is the reward for doing your 10,000+ steps during the day.||||The room was perfectly lovely, in a qaint, stylish old way, being part of a quaint, stylish old building. Access to this top floor suite required some reserves of energy , and would not suit those with access difficulties.||||It was a bit difficult to find but we got there in the end, entering by what appears to be the back door at the given address. Although alluded to in the instructions, it could be made clearer that although La Residenza is a discreet business entity, it is in fact fully entwined with the adjacent "proper" hotel, La Calcina. Access is easy via La Calcina and their reception desk, which is a shared resource. All food and drink is in La Calcina. Their restaurant was so good, we took all of our breakfasts and evening meals there (at a reduced rate). A unusual symbiosis, but perfectly OK once you get the hang of it.||||It is very close to the Zattere vaporetto stop, so geting around is very easy. Top tip - get around with a multi-day vaporetto ticket. Take the Alilaguna boat for the airport if you want to spare the expense of a private water taxi. It calls at Zattere.||||A very enjoyable stay. Charming and professional staff. Would happily stay...
Read moreI booked this hotel because it was on the waters edge and easily accessible with luggage for water taxis etc. it had so many wonderful reviews too. |Firstly there is no elevator in the building. Even though they take your luggage up… there are many stairs to climb. Didn’t bother me but could be a problem for somebody slightly less active. The room was clean but basic. The bathroom had an old school claw foot tub with shower and curtain around. They did supply robe and slippers but take your own shampoo and conditioner. |The tile floors were wearing thin and you can’t walk bare foot. Sharp edges and holes in floor. |Walls need a little paint etc. cracks all over. |The service on the other hand was amazing. Samuel at the front desk went above and beyond to assist and was simply charming. |If they took care of some of the issues we would definitely recommend and stay there again… on the ground floor next time. |Great location in Zattera. Lots of gorgeous shops and restaurants within...
