Hakone Ashinoko Bikeikan — Hotel in Hakone

It’s not a ryokan, don’t be fooled. They do not serve food even though they say they do. Terrible service. Host was rude and unhelpful and took advantage of us. The room is great if you want to have a board meeting with a view or something where you don’t need any food or comfortable places to sit or lay. We arrived looking forward to the traditional ryokan experience but they refused to serve dinner, saying I should’ve booked it when I booked the room, which - catch 22- wasn’t an option… we had just arrived so I asked to cancel and get a refund since the booking was misrepresenting itself as a ryokan that serves dinner. We still needed to eat. There were no open restaurants in the area because it was Tuesday? The local taxi services were not operational. Definitely don’t stay here if you don’t have a car and don’t want to walk up the side of a mountain. So we had to walk down the mountain and catch the last bus to a neighboring town and book another hotel that did serve food. We had no choice. The host refused to refund us anything, they kept 2 nights charge for nothing. We paid $350 for the pleasure of walking up and down 1000 steps and paying...

Nice, traditional and clean accommodation with beautiful views of Mount Fuji — definitely a peaceful setting. However, the overall experience was underwhelming, especially for the price (approx. €200/night).

There’s no check-in service, no breakfast or dinner offered, and although there’s a large table in the room, there are no plates, cutlery, or any means to prepare or serve food. If you arrive by public transport, be aware that your dining options are very limited — only one restaurant was open in the village during our stay, and there are no convenience stores nearby.

While the view is a highlight, the lack of basic services makes it hard to recommend at this price point. A 3/5 for the aesthetics and cleanliness, but overall not great...

Amazing view with wonderful staff. If you wanna wake up with Mt. Fuji and the lake, you have to come and stay. You will not regret of the stay. The lady from emergency call is extremely friendly and kind. My children suddenly got very bad vomited when we stayed, as you can image, they made the comforter and mattress dirty. We called emergency phone at morning, and the lady firstly paid attention on the kids and asked us if we need help. She told me don't worry about the room and focus on my children. How sweet of that? You cannot be aware of how people could so kind like this. We apologize for the trouble and besides that, all of my family love the room, the view and the hot spring. Thanks again for your kind...
