Small quiet little (what appears to be family-owned) omurice and hamburger steak place. When we first arrived and sat down, we were taken away with the old menu, older style restaurant look, didn't appear to be updated in a while.
But we still gave it a try. And it was well worth it.
The super-quiet elderly man that single-handedly runs this small eatery, was super efficient, kind, and humble. He ran it all by himself.
Taking orders, cooking, bussing tables and running payments.
At first we were skeptical, but the meal was very simple. Felt like it was cooked by family. Truly home-style feel. Was actually very very good.
My wife and I ordered the hamburg steak with egg and the chicken omurice with the combo set with a warm delicious soup and a small salad each. Came out to 1860 JPY (about $12 US).
To me, running this all alone and still producing heart- and (belly-) warming delicious food deserves a 5 star.
After I told him Oishī (delicious), then his warm smile appeared and he replied very kindly and warmly.
Will definitely come back if in...

The owner took our order and then put a few glasses of water on our table (rudely, almost like he is throwing a tantrum) and walked away to the kitchen. When he came back with our food, same thing - he put the food on our table in a rude manner. The whole time we were there, the owner looked pissed and cranky. Food was alright, nothing to shout about. My teenage son could make similar curry rice at home with pre-made Japanese curry cube. The shop is filled with smokey frying oil stench and my eyes teared up due to the kitchen smoke. I dont think the concept of ambience applies in this place. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I had many wonderful experiences in Japan and this is surely NOT...
Read moreThe old man who runs it knows how to cook but seems to really get bombarded by all of the foreigners visiting Kiyomizuders. About 5 people walked in at once shortly after we went in, so he put the sign on the door that he was at full capacity. And 3 more groups of foreigners came in... My partner and I went half half on two dishes. Best omurice of my life. The egg was smooth and deliciously blended with the sauce. An amazing katsu curry that was freshly fried but...
