I booked a rental for my boyfriend and I on 25th October and couldn‘t be happier. This was my first trip to Japan and wearing a kimono was one thing on my bucket list I absolutely had to do during our stay in Kyoto. I‘ve researched quite a lot which shop to go to as I wanted to book a photographer to take pictures of us as well, but the shear amount of stores offering rentals got overwhelming real quick.
My choice to go to Andot because of the good reviews it had, was definitely the right one, as the japanese owners are so sweet and welcoming. I‘ve had a whole english conversation (which was a first for me after 2 weeks in Japan) during my dress up as she speaks english very well, so time flew by very quickly. After I got my hair done I went down the stairs and my boyfriend definitely gave me „the look“ when he saw me. I looked absolutely beautiful!
To book the 1hour outdoor photoshoot was also the best choice I could have made. The photographer was so nice and easy to work with. He gave clear instructions how to pose that I didn‘t feel awkward one bit, even for someone like me who usually hates photos being taken of me. In the end we had well over the promised amount of photos in so many different locations. My boyfriend even managed to get the photographer on board for his proposal, so I got beautiful pictures of the moment I was waiting for for such a long...
Read moreWe had a lovely kimono rental experience a couple of days back and both Tomoko and her partner Atushi were incredibly helpful. Very professional service throughout. We booked through their website a few weeks in advance as we wanted to hire from a reputable local vendor. The owners are a couple of local tailors both incredibly knowledgeable about kimonos and Japanese fashion. All the items in the shop are very high quality and well kept. I believe they make most of the items themselves. Once we picked our items, we got dressed in the store and Tomoko did a beautiful traditional Japanese hairstyle to complement my chosen kimono. The store also offers professional photoshoots - we did a 30 min long session with lovely Yuki. We walked for about 5 minutes to a shrine around the corner and received a total of 65 lightly edited images THE NEXT DAY. Yuki is not messing about! The store lets you keep the kimonos until 7 pm, plenty of time to walk around the area and get a few more shots. I'd also like to mention that we received many compliments from locals who were very impressed with the quality of our items. Highly recommend this spot! The owners speak...
Read moreThis is the place to rent a kimono or yukata if you are in Kyoto. They have high-quality kimonos that are beautiful and well-cared-for. I rented a beautiful kimono with goldwork embroidery detail. I allowed the staff to help with decisions to make sure everything looked perfect. I didn't have my passport on me for tax-free purposes, but if you do, they can give you that tax-free benefit.
Absolutely gorgeous kimonos, yukatas, and furisodes to go through and I loved the one I picked. I wanted something nice, but also appropriate for my age (furisodes are for much younger, single women). I picked out my kimono, obi, hairstyle and accessories and the woman at the shop helped me get dressed. I decided to do the photo package with the store so I could get good pictures since I was traveling alone, and I’m so glad I did.
If you're into embroidery, I'll point out that my kimono had goldwork accents along the bottom (hand sewn metal couched onto the fabric, done expertly)
I loved it so much, I went back the next day and bought myself a yukata for home!!!...
