Kisanjina — Restaurant in Kyoto

Absolutely brilliant food, and the best we had in Kyoto. Cozy little shop run by a single great guy, went there as a pretty large group (felt a bit bad for giving him so much to do at once) but the wait wasn't anywhere near unreasonable and we were impressed by how quickly he prepared our food.

The standout dish was the ginger pork rice bowl, ordered it several times and was always blown away, plus the tempura was also great. And on top of that, everything was very reasonably priced, with a full meal set and beer costing somewhere in the ballpark of 1,500 yen.

We had a great time here. The shop doesn't look like much but our food was delicious and the drinks good. The menu has some English on it so you can at least get a sense of what you're about to order. The person serving our food asked where we were from and when we told him he made an active effort to learn and talk with us in our native language. My only complaints would be that the seating was not that comfortable and that the bathroom, while clean, was very small, making it difficult...

A small local Japanese restaurant has about 8 tables for 2 persons each. Tidy and clean but decoration is bit old. Quiet dinning environment.
