We stayed at Rak for two nights on our trip to Kyoto at the end of May. We arrived at about 9am, having walked from the station (about thirty minutes) and were pleasantly surprised to find that a room was ready for us. The couple rooms are spacious, very clean and include a wash-basin. Meanwhile, the shared bathroom is very spacious and there are male and female toilets, all of which were immaculate. For us, the best thing about the hostel was its location in the heart of Higashiyama, a short walk from Gion. We also hired bikes from the hostel (1,000Y each) and cycled to the orange gates, which are about a mile away.||||Our only issue was with the entry to the hostel- you have to open your emails, click on a link and unlock the hostel door this way. It didn't always work for us and the desk isn't always manned so we got locked out twice. They also sent me a lot of emails in the run up to our stay which I found quite stressful as I didn't have much...
Read moreThis is a lovely place that is well located for exploring East Kyoto. It isn't a walkable from Kyoto station, but there is a bus that drops you very close (instructions are sent through after you book). There is a FamilyMart and supermarket very close by aswell as numerous places to eat.|The hostel itself is very clean and tidy, rooms are basic but exactly as they are sold. Bathrooms were always very clean when we used them and theres a water fountain for hot and cold water just off the reception desk.|I would have to agree with the comments in other reviews about the walls being thin. It didn't cause us a problem while we were there but you could hear every word from reception and the room next door. The main desk isn't manned after about 8pm (in our experience), which again, didn't cause us a problem. But if you had an issue with the electronic door unlocking system it might be. |Overall, a great place to stay and we...
Read moreI have nothing but good words about this hotel. They have a friendly staff who speaks English well. They have a very wonderful hotel interior. The also used state-of-the-art technology in locking and unlocking of hotel main door, providing 24/7 security for the guests. The hotel has 2 floors. Free drinking water is provided. All rooms are beautifully-designed with lavatory and mirror. Rooms are spacious. Shower and CR are common to all guests. Well-cleaned and maintained. The neighbourhood where the hotel is located is very quiet. It is also 10 minute walk away from the nearest train station, the Keihan Railway. Convenience stores and supermarket can also be found near Rak Kiyomizu. The hotel is also conveniently located near Kyoto's sought-after temples and shrines. I would gladly recommend this hotel to all tourists who will visit Kyoto...
