Four nights. Solo, western guest. Bald. ||The staffs: 9 out of 10 of the staff - and I dealt with dozens during my stay - are top-notch. But they do employ the odd, mostly male div. The good ones are great. Of course they are, they are Japanese. The small minority let the side down with small errors and incorrect advice. Then you pick up with a woman and she sorts it. That said, the vast majority of staffs were so good. The desk, the service, the kitchen, the onsen, the domestics. All working hard. Doing a v good job. ||The room: my mattress had a dip in the middle. Not a massive dipsy, but enough for man to notice it. Needs replacing. Air con was tip-top. Shower was very powerful and up there with the best of them. Acoustic insulation was good. Bit dated mind. But, everything you need including safe. ||A special shout out to the lady who cleaned ma 5th floor room. So cheery. And accommodating. Daily freshen up was so lovely. Big respect to the cleaning team. ||The onsen: small. But you have an indoor pool and an outdoor one. Plus a single ‘pot’ bath outside and your cold plunge. Staffs look after the onsen well. It gets crowded but is open for 20 hours a day so just go a bit later / earlier. Small complaint but the cold bath a bit too warm. I’ve noticed that pattern in Japan. They like their plunge 5 degrees warmer than the western man. But it’s a great touch. I was in there all the time. ||Massage: I wanted a massage. I ordered a 60m full-body with a div at the desk (the dog and bone in ma room was OOO). He told me it was confirmed with the masseuse and it wasn’t! But the masseuse fitted man in 30 mins later. ||You keep your clothes on with JAP massages which I predicted would be less than optimal. But it wasn’t. And the male masseur was so skilled. The massage was rightly robust. No nook left under manipulated. One of the best ever. Next day, I felt brand new. I take a deep bow of respect to him. ||They lay on free ice lolly afters and ramen too depending on your wants. ||The food: I only had breakfast (and evening ramen once) in with my deal. Western options not as comprehensive as Asian (fine) but I must say, I did enjoy the breakfast food a lot. Clam miso soup with vinegar rice? Yep. Fish cake and tempura prawn? Aye. Egg? French pastries? Oh, go on then.||Location: perfect! Kyoto station is like mins away on foot. Buses near. Dead easy to get around. ||Would I return. Yes. I...
Read moreThank you very much to Dormy Inn Premium Kyoto Ekimae! On top of the spacious room, amazing breakfast, much needed onsen experience and tons of extras (like surprise free ice cream popsicles after a hot public bath, ramen service at night, huge manga library and the probiotic drink during the morning hours), what stood out to us was our unforgettable experience that exemplifies how honest the Japanese people are.
After checking in on our first day, my spouse left his wallet at the front desk. We had both our passports in the wallet together with his credit card and cash. A few minutes after we settled in our room, the front desk called our room and was trying to explain that we left our wallet. When we both were unable to understand what they were saying, the front door staff came and knocked at our room and handed over the wallet - with all its contents intact. Wow, it gave us a deeper respect of Japan and its people. We can't even imagine what could have happened if we were staying at a different country.
Instead of having our whole vacation ruined, we have never been more excited to plan our return visit to this most wonderful...
Read moreOverall, the fact that I booked this place is due to good reviews and convenience to Kyoto Station. I am disappointed with the hotel and wonder why it is premium? This is the first hotel I stayed at that requires me to put my used towels and rubbish outside my room if I need a change. If I require cleaning of my room as I stayed for more than 1 night, I need to request and be charged 1500 yen per room per makeup. There is no option to change the pyjamas. Moreover, the twin bedroom was small and the beds are separated by the walkway. One of them had the TV perpendicular to it so if you need to watch TV, you will have to physically turn the TV around. There was no bottled water in the room so you have to get it from the front desk. The only thing I liked was the onsen which was on the rooftop which include one inside and one outside and also the free Yakult in the morning and the ice pops in the evening and ramen for supper. I would say they should drop the word premium since they don't even provide room cleaning service as part...
