Japanese izakaya Wamon is located right across from Kyoto Station, and a great place for drinks and snacks after arriving back from a day trip.
The VIP course was delicious, with perfect delicate sashimi, flavoursome kushikatsu and cute desserts. The wagyu skewers were also excellent, though I would have preferred the meat rarer. Highballs were mixed nice and strong, and a pleasure to drink overlooking Kyoto Station as the sun set and electric lights started to twinkle on.
Service is friendly and brisk, and the decor is simple and elegant. The music is maybe a little loud for my tastes, but I was there on a quiet evening and it probably makes perfect sense on livelier nights.

Read moreWamon brings excellent service from the start ! All the staffs were super polite and explaining all the traditional starters , food and drinks to us. Starting from the carefully selected appetizers, skewers ( kushikatsu) , sashimi, roasted beef , grilled beef , rice mix (kamameshi ), to the beautifully presented dessert! Everything was top notch. Just 2 minutes walk from the Kyoto station, wamon is not to be missed with the grand overlooking view to the station itself!
