I booked a Triple Deluxe room as a diamond member. On check in I was told there were no upgrades due to my bed choice. I saw paid upgrades available earlier in the day for triple rooms however I understand capacity issues. Still a small disappointment. While I was being checked in the person next to me was being positively offered late check out. I don’t usually ask however it would have been appreciated and I heard it being offered so I asked for the same and was unfortunately denied. Usually my experience is late check out from a standard room or standard check out in an upgraded room but getting neither was pretty disappointing. The hotel offered executive lounge access to my entire party of 3 rather than the standard 2 and that we could stay in the lounge for some time after check out. At least we could get that concession.||The room itself was pretty standard for the Doubletree brand in Japan. It was a bit small for a triple-occupancy room. Acceptable by my standards however my family were a bit less enthusiastic. I might advise other parties of three to consider two rooms if possible.||The hotel itself is, as its name implies, very close to Kyoto Station. If you’re looking for convenience to transportation you can definitely find that here. ||The executive lounge is located on the top floor. The building has 2 elevator halls however only one can actually get to the top floor. There were sufficient seats and the food and drink offerings were pretty good if you could scoop them up before your fellow guests.||I had a frustrating issue that is the primary reason for my low score. I had mail delivered to this hotel from a local friend however the hotel rejected delivery. The major problem was that when I asked about the mail, no one at the front desk had any idea about the mail situation or process. My friend and I had to make multiple attempts by phone and in-person before someone was finally able to figure our that the hotel had rejected the letter and that the proof of attempted delivery was at the front desk the entire time I had been there since check in. Upon this discovery, none of the staff were willing or able to help out regarding this issue so I had to take the proof of attempted delivery and walk on my own to the local post office and sort out the situation on my last day before check out and leaving the country. The biggest problem here is that until I found a staff member who knew what they were doing, the rest of the front desk staff were completely disinterested in any sort of service. They would rather make excuses and did not even attempt to consult with other staff members on subjects they don’t know about. They just hope that you will give up and go away which is an attitude I expect to find in the US but not here in Japan. ||The hotel itself seemed ok however my experience with customer service and treatment makes me apprehensive about coming back. There are plenty of other Hilton locations in Kyoto such as the Doubletree Higashiyama, Hilton Kyoto, and Roku Kyoto where I’ve had much more positive...
Read moreThe DoubleTree by Hilton Kyoto Station has “Kyoto Station” in its name, which might lead you to believe it’s directly connected to or adjacent to the station. However, it’s important to note that it requires a bit of a walk from the actual station and is located on the opposite side of Kyoto Tower. This can be slightly inconvenient if you’re carrying heavy luggage or arriving during inclement weather.
Despite the slight location misrepresentation, the hotel offers several positives. The staff is notably friendly and professional, providing attentive service throughout my stay. The hotel maintains the DoubleTree brand’s reputation for hospitality, beginning with their signature warm chocolate chip cookie at check-in.
The rooms are well-appointed with comfortable beds and modern amenities, as expected from the Hilton brand. The overall cleanliness and maintenance of the property meet high standards. One drawback to note is the breakfast service. While the food quality itself is good with a nice selection of both Western and Japanese options, there was consistently a long line to get in during peak hours. Fortunately, there’s a 7-Eleven right next door to the hotel, which proved to be a convenient alternative. We grabbed coffee, egg sandwiches, and smoothies there and skipped the hotel breakfast entirely - a quicker and more budget-friendly option that worked perfectly for us.
The hotel’s location, while not directly at the station, still offers reasonable access to transportation hubs, making it convenient for exploring Kyoto’s attractions. The area around the hotel has plenty of dining and shopping options, particularly if you venture toward the station complex. You can watch the bullet trains leave the station from your room.
Overall, this property provides a comfortable stay with good service, but just be aware of the slightly misleading name regarding its proximity to...
