I stayed here for 6 nights in late October- early November as a solo traveller and really enjoyed my time here.
The service was great - self check in and check out at the kiosks was very straightforward. Reception staff was very helpful in explaining the luggage delivery service and helped arrange one to my next destination, staff’s English level was proficient and clear for this conversation. They also greet you every time you enter the building/exit the elevators, really building the customer experience. 🙏
I can accept that Japanese hotel rooms are just smaller overall. I stayed in a single room and it was just enough space for me as one person and with one large suitcase. Not much table space. The room was well cleaned but they only empty rubbish that’s placed in the bins which were very small. I hope the hotel can provide another bin or recycling location dedicated for paper recycling (from all the shopping bags!) which could not go into the general or plastic bottle recycling bins. The bathroom had bit of an unpleasant odour, but not noticeable when door is kept shut. There was also a noticeable step up/down going in/out of the bathroom, I understand it’s to prevent flooding but you do need to watch your step.
Location of this hotel was primarily why I booked here and it was excellent as expected. Only a 5 minute walk to Kyoto station connected to so many public transport routes and right next to Avanti shopping centre, or 10 minute walk to AEON, and surrounded by several convenience stores and restaurants - super convenient!
I also chose the breakfast included option and LOVED it every morning - the Kyoto style miso soup became my favourite ❤️
Only major downside is there are not enough washing machines and it’s always in demand in the evening, there is a coin laundry nearby but more pricey and also gets busy.
Overall, great experience, I’ll definitely consider here again for future...
Read moreThis hotel is situated near to Kyoto Station as well as the Express Bus Terminal. We booked into this hotel because of its proximity to the train station as it will be very convenient to move around in Kyoto. But in the end it was more convenient to travel by city bus! Anyway we had no regret as the bus station is also not far from the train station. This hotel is quite new, built in 2017 with a nice outlook. Next door is Dawson Mart. ||Hotel staffs are friendly and helpful. Room is also very small, need to squeeze in the luggage! Luckily we didn’t have many luggage. They don’t provide drinking water nor tea/coffee sachets. But you can get for yourselves at the lobby. After 3.00 pm, you can get welcome coffee from the coffee dispenser at the lobby. There are vending machines at the ground floor. There is even a washing machine there. They supply pajamas! So cute!||Wifi is not fast, only at 6.95 Mbps when tested. As our room was facing another block of building, you could hear noise from the other building. ||We were delighted to find out that the buffet breakfast was authentic Japanese cuisine at ¥1220 per pax. It’s a good experience to try out this Japanese breakfast. However, they don’t provide fresh fruits. ||There is no leisure amenity at this hotel. It is more suitable for those who just need a place to have a good sleep. ||Overall, we had a pleasant stay...
Read moreThe Sotestsu Kyoto-Hachijoguchi was my second Sotetsu hotel in Japan and did not disappoint. I stayed two nights and had a comfort double room - it was one of the more spacious rooms I stayed in whilst visiting Japan. Everything looks to be very new and well kept. You can request to have your room made up every day if you wish. Staff downstairs were very helpful and spoke good English. They can arrange luggage forwarding for a fee if you want to avoid lugging suitcases yourself back to Tokyo and they did this for my friend which was fantastic. They had complimentary umbrellas you could borrow for inclement weather which was so helpful. The coin laundry was the most superior I have seen in my time in Japan. The amenities bar at reception was also comprehensive. The train station is a short 3 minute walk away and the Avanti department store is 2 minutes away. The train station has many excellent restaurants and also a McDonalds if you're craving a late night junk food fix. Nearby are multiple convenience stores if you want to self cater, there is also a restaurant downstairs for breakfast (we didn't eat there though). Location was also convenient when getting around Kyoto. Overall, a...
