Gion Koyu-an Machiya — Hotel in Kyoto

We were sadly only able to stay one night at this location but it was a very nice place and had the authentic feel we were hoping for.

The bathrooms have large cedar tubs that smell amazing when the room is steamy, there is also a window to allow in fresh air and in the upstairs bathroom there is a small TV on the wall in front of the bath. The closets have extra futons which allows you to stack them up for a little extra padding if you are a side sleeper like myself.

Downstairs the living room area has a Kotatsu table with a sunken floor underneath that has more than enough depth for the 5'9"-6'2" guests we had with us to stretch our legs. We found the kitchen to be well stocked and more than adequate for our needs.

The location is great being only a 10-15min walk from some great food and shopping areas and I highly recommend a night time walk down along the path that follows the river.

The staff speak great english and are honestly some of the nicest most accommodating people we ran into on our trip. I left a pair of jeans there and asked if they by chance found them so I could pay to have them sent to the airport for me (luggage and package forwarding is common and easy in japan). They were unable to locate them but they asked about every employee they could think of if they had seen them, which was very much above and beyond for a pair of pants. It just shows how much care they try to show to their guests as people and not just a source of revenue. (If you do ever happen to stumble across them, please donate them to a local clothing charity so someone can get some good use out of them)

If I had any recommendations it would be to have a few shredded memory foam pillows as an option and perhaps an air purifier or two to help those with allergies.

Our family of four throughly enjoyed our stay at this residence. We felt exposed to a traditional Japanese experience. We loved the tatami room, wood soaking tubs and wet room. The kitchen is miniscule but just enough room to make breakfast....you'll be out for lunch, dinner... it would be nice if salt, pepper were provided. Bring your own or a tiny bottle of olive oil or spray. Excellent location with easy access to the shrines we most wanted to visit with 7 Eleven, grocery stores, bus, subway and laundry nearby. Daily housecleaning was a nice touch and staff was extremely helpful in helping with dinner reservations, taxi arrangements and transportation advice. Highly...

비교적 저렴한덴 다 이유가 있습니다. 일본식 가정집 느낌의 숙소 찾아보다 가게 되었는데, 문이 잠겨있고 안에 아무도 없어서 30여분 정도 기다리다 결국 문 앞에 쓰여있던 호텔로 전화를 했었습니다. 일단 숙소 비밀번호 알려주셔서 들어갔는데 당일 본인들 근무시간 내 교토역 근처 해당 호텔로 와서 도시세를 내라고 하더군요..; 예약 상세내용 및 사전에도 고지가 없었던거라 많이 당황했고, 그 호텔까지 대중교통으로 편도 20여분씩 다녀와야 해서 너무 화가 났습니다. 메시지나 메일로 “체크인 전 필히 해당 호텔로 방문 요청” 문구만 있었어도 사전에 미리 문의 메일을 보내던가, 방문을 했었을텐데 그런 문구는 분명 없었구요!! 😡 그리고 제가 해외 통화가 되는거였으니 망정이지, 저도 데이터만 사용 가능한 유심이었다면.. 아찔하네요. 🤯 그리고 저녁에 씻으려고 히노끼 욕조에 갔다가 너무 당황 스럽고 화났던게.. 1,2층 전부 곰팡이가 까맣게 있었다는 것 입니다. 😨 너무 찝찝해서 저는 사용 못 했었네요. 그리고 1,2층 모두 방음이 안되어 앞에 사람들 지나다니는 소리, 차나 오토바이 소리가 너무 잘 들렸습니다.. 그나마 좋은건 근처 공원이 가까운데 벚꽃 명소인 것 같더라구요. 그리고 숙소 내부는 사진과 같고 대체적으로 깔끔합니다. 히노끼 욕조와 사후 고지(도시세)만 아니었어도.. 그래도 괜찮았을거 같네요. 저는 이제 이 숙소는 절대 다신 안 갑니다. 숙소 이용 후 아고다에 이용후기 남겼었는데 일부러 지운거 같더라고요. 😡 이제 아고다...
