This is a professional kimono store in Kyoto, and while everyone’s experience may vary, here’s some personal advice & my Japanese friend's experience that might be helpful to anyone who is interested in to make decision:
I recommend starting with the basic plan, there are still plenty of beautiful colors and designs available, so there’s no real need to upgrade. However, I did notice that the staff were quite eager to encourage customers to choose higher-priced plans. If you do upgrade, they tend to stay quiet about what’s included, so be sure to ask clearly, and be cautious of hidden fees—add-on prices weren’t explained in detail. Due to a shortage of staff, the preparation process felt rushed. The kimono shoes, especially the women's, caused blisters, so I suggest bringing your own comfortable footwear to avoid hurts, bleeding, and scars on your foot that could affect the rest of your trip. I also recommend doing your own makeup in advance, especially if you’re used to clean or sensitive-skin-friendly products, as we experienced itchy and breakout pimples afterward. Hair decorations cost extra, and all payments must be made in cash only, otherwise you need to pay 5% credit fee, even if the total is tens of thousands of yen or more. Once you leave the store with kimono, there’s no option to negotiate or ask questions, so make sure you clarify everything upfront.
Overall, the experience...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of renting a kimono, and the entire experience was exceptional. The kimono itself was not only beautifully crafted but also surprisingly comfortable, allowing me to move freely and enjoy my day without any restrictions. The attention to detail in the design and the quality of the fabric were truly impressive, far surpassing my expectations.
Equally noteworthy was the level of hospitality. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, going above and beyond to ensure that I felt valued and well cared for throughout the entire process. They offered thoughtful guidance in selecting the perfect kimono and assisted with the dressing process, making everything seamless.
I highly recommend this service to anyone seeking a memorable and smooth kimono rental experience. It perfectly combines elegance, comfort, and outstanding customer...
Read moreWe had a great experience with Momoka kimono, the owner speaks English which was a great help!
We went with a get your guide package, so selection was slightly more limited, but we still found great kimonos to wear for the day.
For women, help with dressing and hair styling was part of the package (makeup wasn't) and i came out with a great look! If you are a man, be aware selection is much more limited, with a choice of colours between blue, grey and black - you can tell the shop is used to catering to be mostly women. You should still be able to find something though, no fear!
Don't bring much with you, the shop will provide you with a small handbag assorted with your kimono to carry around phone, money, etc, and will keep your regular clothes at the store until you're ready to return...
