Terrific hotel! The entryway is lined with stunning artwork. Our guest room (Corner Premium Twin Room with City View) was pure luxury. It was immaculate, HUGE, and offered all manner of amenities. Some were hidden in various nooks and crannies throughout the room, and we enjoyed opening each drawer to see what sort of delightful surprise was hidden there for us.||There are buttons near the beds to control the window shades. ||The toilet room is completely separate from the bath room, and the bath facilities feature high end tech. There is even a little TV in the bathroom, so you can soak while watching your programs, in case that is a dream of yours.||Plenty of toiletries are available in the room, and also tea and coffee.||Breakfast is brought to your room each morning. They will ring a doorbell and set the food on a small dining table (or else, the completely separate tea table, if you prefer). A day in advance, you must select either the Western or Japanese breakfast option. I say go with the Japanese breakfast. The "Western" breakfast is some uncanny valley version of a western breakfast.||The hotel is located in the charming Gion area. Plenty of things in walking distance, including a train station. ||Our "city view" room was nice and quiet. The river view rooms face one of the busier streets, but the soundproofing at the hotel seemed good overall.||One staff member spoke really good English. The other we spoke to, less so. He also tried to rope us into an expensive dinner reservation when I was just asking for a recommendation, FYI.||All in all, we were really happy with this hotel! I'm not surprised to see it tends to sell out quickly. You get a lot for your money here. That said, I am not fussed about on-site amenities, but do note there is nothing like an exercise room or spa here. There is a tiny dining area off of the lobby (I guess to use if you bring your own food?) and a smoking room, also...

Read moreHands down the best hotel I stayed in Japan. A truly 5 star experience for a great price. I stayed on the ground floor and the room was facing the road at the back side and I was afraid it would be too noisy and weird, but the suite is very well soundproof with two double glazed windows to the balcony. Service was excellent and staff spoke good English. The room was fantastic, great size with lots of amenities (slippers, pajamas, toothbrushes and even beauty facemasks lol) and the curtains are open and shut by pressing a button by the bed. Breakfast was brought everyday to your room by the most polite and friendliest waiters and waitresses wearing gloves and dressed up to the nines. You can choose breakfast between a Japanese and Western style options and both are equally great. Now, the bathroom is something else: it's a complete sauna and wellness center inside your suite. The shower/bathtub area is huge and they even have a TV inside! Nice adjustable mood lighting and great water pressure and temperature. 10/10. High tech toilet that open and close the lid automatically is in its own separated area as well. Best bathroom ever! The location is also unbeatable: in the same block of an underground metro/train station and right at the entrance to Gion (the geisha district), but on calmer streets far from the tourist...
