I understand Kyoto is experiencing a lot of stress from over tourism, and I am sorry that many do not respect the city and country they are visiting. The scamming and discriminating of innocent paying customers is unfair either way.

I used the little Japanese I know and voice translations to communicate. I was the last customer of the day, the only other with 3 other workers. We used a translation app to discuss services, color, shape etc., all good. I originally scheduled gel but when I arrived I asked if there was time permitting for acrylic/sculpture instead. They said no problem, it takes about the same time as gel, great. I thought everything was going well until 25 minutes later when she was rushing to file and then through a top coat on. Once I paid and started questioning the end result (with still 30 minutes left in the appointment I paid for) all three staff members were escorting me out the salon.

I paid for a 60+ minute service and received a 30 minute rush job that turned out very poorly. The shape is uneven on almost every nail, the shape itself is not what I asked for (3 times), and two of my nails are missing a top coat.

No this was not a language barrier problem.

I advise that English speakers DO NOT go here for nails. It's unfortunate because other reviewers spoke highly of the salon and their nails look amazing. I do believe that I was overcharged and they did not provide the services I paid for, both in quality...

I tried contacting them by instagram. As the salon was not responding, I walked toward it just to make a booking with the lady on Tuesday for a Friday because they only had someone who could do acrylic nails then. That was okay. After that I received a message by instagram on Friday that I could only do gel nails… Came to the appointment anyway and told the ladies on Friday what I booked. After an intern discussion they came back and it was possible to do acrylic nails (was it because I am not asian? Was it because I was a foreign costumer? Nobody knows…)

Happy with the nails, they totally nailed it to make it exactly like the Pinterest picture! Not happy with the service and trouble before the appointment...

I highly recommend Kanae for eyelash extensions and I have the most cutest eyes now thanks to her.

A little back story, I’ve been traveling for 6 weeks and got my lashes done in Vietnam. It was badly done and almost all of them had fallen out within 2 weeks.

Kanae is an expert at what she does and took the time and care to remove the lashes and make sure my new extensions fit my eye and looked amazing. I’m very sad there isn’t someone as skilled as her in the US.
