We stayed at Miru Kyoto Gion for 5 nights. In the heart of Gion, it’s a small hotel with 10 rooms - making it a very intimate stay. The staff were welcoming and very helpful - interested in our plans and helping us to book restaurants (- major tip for all travellers - do your homework and book your restaurant every night for about 7/7:30pm latest - everyone seems to eat early in Japan). We stayed in room 402 - a simple view over the tiled roof tops of Gion. There is a separate bedroom and living space with simple sliding doors and high quality amenities- kettle, fridge, iron, ironing board. They have a washer dryer onsite for guest use and will look after this for you too. It is well located for transport links with a 7/11 2 doors away and 1 street away from the famous illuminated cherry blossoms canal. The bed was enormous and really comfortable- the bathroom has a separate wet room for a brilliant shower as well as a bath - with high quality toiletries. Nothing was too much trouble for this hotel. The room even has a microwave, crockery and basin with kettle for drinks and snacks. A complementary breakfast is offered featuring orange juice, great croissant and tea or coffee. The staff even gave my husband a bottle of champagne for his birthday! An oasis of peace in busy Kyoto. This has to be one of our best stay experiences from our extensive travels around the world. It over delivered on...
Read moreAwesome hotel w mix of western amenities and traditional Japanese style. This is in the Gion district which is one of 5 geisha districts. It’s gorgeous as it keeps the traditional integrity and look of old Kyoto. The hotel has only 10 units so it’s quiet. They have croissant service for breakfast and Nespresso machines in the room. Literally my only complaint is there are no stir sticks in the room w the coffee pods but there are real silverware and plates and coffee cups in the drawers. The bathroom is separate w a door that closes by the sink area- which is nice if your partner is getting ready In the morning while you sleep a few more minutes. I notice a lot of Japanese hotels don’t do this. The toilet obviously is in a separate room that closes. The shower has great water pressure and has a walk in shower spot next to the actual tub. The shower has a stool and bowl that is traditional (I only say that bc the onsen we went to had that) but you can scoot that away and use the shower head either standing in the walk in part, or in the tub. The tub is huge and deep. Staff is friendly and speak English well enough. I love the gion district because it was quieter and gorgeous. This hotel has only been open for a year so a lot of cab drivers don’t...
Read moreMy husband and I had an incredible two-night stay at this hidden gem. On our floor, there were only three rooms, providing us with a sense of privacy that we truly appreciated. But the real highlight was our room. The moment we stepped inside, we were genuinely wowed by its spaciousness and elegant design. The living room seamlessly connected to a well-appointed kitchen area with a Nespresso machine and a microwave, making it feel like a home away from home.
The bath/shower room was a real standout. It had a unique Japanese sit-down bath area right next to a bathtub, giving it the feel of a private Japanese bathhouse. The attention to detail in the design was a pleasant surprise. And let's not forget the heavenly comfort of the beds.
Breakfast was a cozy affair on the first floor, where we had a delightful chat with the friendly receptionist, adding a personal touch to our morning. The hotel's location, close to Kyoto's traditional areas, was another plus.
We learned that this hotel had opened its doors just six months ago, and we felt incredibly lucky to have stumbled upon it. Without a doubt, we'll be making this our go-to choice for future...
