I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. First, I’ll start with the SERVICE. The front desk was always helpful with local recommendations, restaurant reservations or simply extra amenities. They speak English very well, better than equivalent hotels in Tokyo. The front office manager, Hiroki, showed exceptional customer service. I had a mix-up of dates with a 3rd party booking. Hiroki accommodated so that I could enjoy my stay - stress-free. Thank you Hiroki - I enjoyed Kyoto even more because of your help and generosity. Second, the hotel is in a great location, right off the subway. Also, there are plenty of local restaurants within 5-10 minutes walking distance - across the bridge and slightly south of the hotel towards Gion. My room was spotless; I appreciated the cleanliness and extra kudos for providing sanitizing wipes for extra measure. As others have mentioned, the rooms are modern and made great use of space. As a solo traveler, I didn’t feel the room to be small but walking around the room with another traveler could feel cramped. I loved the shower as well as the thoughtful and high-quality amenities (Clarins products and Korean beauty products!). Another nice touch was the sitting area by the window in the room and also the sitting area in the lobby which had multiple types of tea, coffee and small snacks. Breakfast included everything one could need: option of two types of eggs, hash brown, croissants and breads, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, miso soup, cauliflower soup, barley tea, yogurt with nuts and dried fruit, cereal and milk, salad with many delicious dressings, cold cut meats and fresh tea & coffee. They do have a gym which is clean but it’s very minimal. They had a couple cardio machines and some dumbbells. Though I workout everyday, the small gym was a non-issue for me as my visit to Kyoto was to see the town, experience it’s culture and it’s people - not workout at my hotel gym :) Overall, the hotel had the hospitality of a cute and quaint hotel with a friendly front desk staff + the modern feel and amenities of an upscale...
Read moreStayed here recently for three nights and was pleasantly surprised to find that my room was upgraded from a Superior to Premier King room on the 5th floor (top floor, room 511).
The bed was comfy and soft in places while the bathroom was clean and water pressure was excellent. Thought that it would be a comfortable night’s rest but was dismayed to find that the walls were extremely thin as I could hear the occupants in room 510 and 512 banging the closet/shifting their luggage, laughing and even stomping across the room (if these noises bothered me, imagine how their downstairs neighbors felt).
I couldn’t take it on the second night so I called front desk for a room change and they moved me to a Premier Twin room that was next to the street. The front desk warned me that the street noises were loud but I felt that it was quieter than the previous night’s noises! Oh, and for some reason, the twin beds was much more comfier than the king-size bed.
Breakfast was quite delicious, especially the croissants, while service was pleasant, although on my last day, I had to remind the staff on my Earl Grey order.
The personnel at the lounge were great though and the basque cheesecake was delicious.
All in all, I had a pleasant stay and will return but I do hope management can issue a notice or pre-warn guests to be more aware and conscious about not making noise in the rooms, especially foreigners who may not understand that disturbing their neighbors is considered uncouth behavior.
Kudos to the service and the staff were so kind to collect my cookie and cake that I left in 511’s fridge so that I can enjoy it on my long train journey to Nagasaki. :)
Oh, another thing: please limit the number of plastics in the room. Housekeeping has a tendency to throw away the wash cloth and plastics as well when they can be reused. Also, lots of dust particles floating in the room, not sure where they’re...
Read moreStayed here for 3 nights and would gladly stay again. The staff were all so friendly, super helpful and spoke impeccable English.||The location is great with a train station and subway station 1 minute walk away, and a short walk to sole of the best areas of Kyoto. Also really nice being next to the river for a morning run or walk along the river bank.||The room was a good size, really comfortable bed and excellent facilities. The nespresso machine was handy and fresh bottle water every day. Nice toiletries in the bathroom and a fantastic shower with great water pressure. Excellent cleaning every day. Pyjamas, slippers and robes provided too. The WiFi was excellent and a large TV in the room (not that we used it). Room service is available but we didn't need it.||The breakfast selection was decent. Would have been nice to have a few more cooked options like an eggs benedict but that's me just being fussy. Plenty of healthy options and a variety of cooked food, western and more local. I'm not sure what happened to the other reviewer who mentioned a queue. We ate at different times each of our 3 mornings in the hotel and no problems at all. The green tea was really nice. The coffee was average. Nice staff.||We had a bite to eat in the rest3oje evening for convenience after being out all day. The food was decent enough but nothing to write home about. With so many amazing places to eat in Kyoto I guess you don't really need the hotel restaurant.||The bar area had a really cool vibe and we loved the decor of the hotel. The bamboo feature in the lobby and restaurant area was very unique. The lounge is a nice touch with free coffee and tea available. The gym was small but well equipped. Nice to see a proper weights rack in a hotel gym. ||Reception staff were helpful booking us a taxi and answering any questions.||We would stay here again in an instant....
