If you have been eating too much Japanese food and need something different, head for this place.
It is a very good thai restaurant. I knew it when I entered the restaurant - the whole place was crowded with thai customers ! Good Sign :)
The restaurant is not very big. It has 6-7 tables and 5 counter seatings. As I travel alone, I like counter seatings.
The menu has many items - appetizers (like prawn pastes, spring rolls, mango salads etc.), curries (red, green, Penang etc), tomyam soups, veg (all sorts), meat dishes, and what they classified as โsingle dishโ - fried rice, fried noodles, traditional chicken rice etc. oh and my favorite dessert : mango sticky rice.
I ordered the gilled pork neck with rice. It took awhile for it to arrive, but it was worth the wait. It was nicely grilled, golden and juicy all round, with a good balance of fats and lean meat. The sauce that came with it was to die for. Yum yum.
After travelling in Japan for awhile, this was such a good find. It was so good in its own right (and not just as a substitution to the Japanese cuisine), I am going to visit this place before I leave Kyoto.
It is very easy to find the place. Just take the metro to Kujo and exit via Exit 3. It is just a 3 minutes walk after turning right.
Now to walk off...

Not wanting sushi, ramen, cutlet, set dinners, pasta, I Google search Thai restaurants and found this family operated, friendly, cozy restaurant. It is a hole in the wall, but the food is delicious. The chef cooks the food in front of you as you ordered. The flavor is authentic Thai ( having been to Thailand for over 12 years in a row).
We were so delighted when the food was served. I forgot to take pictures until the chicken gaeng(curry).
Was disappointed when Hainan chicken rice and Som tom ( papaya salad) were sold out. Nonetheless, the stir fry morning glory, tofu and bean sprouts, and pad radna were delicious. We ate 4 bowls of rice, BTW, the sticky rice is served the traditional way, in a small basket.
Service is slow but the restaurant was full at 8 pm. Seating capacity is about 20 max.
Met a family of 6, 3 generations vacationers from Singapore.
If you are running out of options for your late night Kyoto dinning, this restaurant is...
ย ย ย Read moreWe ordered Shrimp Spring Rolls, Green Curry Chicken with rice, and Pad Thai. We were the first customers to arrive, but it took quite a while to get our food. We expected the appetizer to come out first, but instead, the spring rolls and green curry chicken were served together. We then had to wait for the rice to arrive, which also took some time, and shortly after, the second main dish was brought out. The curry itself was good, but the chicken was overcooked, and both the spring rolls and the shrimp in the Pad Thai were rubbery. The Pad Thai was good, but the flavor was completely different from what we're used toโmaybe that's just how it's made in Japan. We're from the U.S., so it definitely tasted...
