The hotel is very central. The area feels safe and lively. We wanted to have a more authentic experience so decided to stay here. The rooms are big and clean. Definitely have a lot of charm. It was interesting to stay in more traditional hotel and then read about the traditions online as you explore the room. The staff will set your bed in the evening in case you wonder where it is 😁 obviously you sleep at the floor level. It was more comfortable than I thought it would be. We didn’t try the bath so can’t comment on that. The breakfast is traditional Japanese with lots of food!!! You have to tell them in advance if you don’t eat meat (which was substituted for us) or fish - which they could also probably substitute but there are loads of sea food or fishy things in those dishes. The breakfast is really fulfilling - miso soup, rice, fish, and like 12 little dishes. If you do get confused as to where to start then we were advised to eat following a triangle shape. There is a shrine right outside the window. Lots of cafes and shops around. A convenience shop is right next to it. In the evening there is also a little bar (entrance via the shop). The shopping street is just around the corner. The market and more luxurious shops are about 15min walk away. The metro station is about 8min away. Taxis are right in...
Read moreWe only stayed in this hotel for one night. The night of the Gion Matsuri (festival)which happened right outside our hotel which was exciting! ||We wanted to stay in at least one traditional style japanese Ryokan style hotel, which is what we got with a bit of a twist as the corridors and foyer all look very modern day but the rooms are clean and tradtional with the cool toilets you see all over japan. You must take off your shoes when entering your room and don the slippers given or go bare foot. ||Yes, it is a shared bath/bathing room. but we loved that! I managed to get all my cleaning done when no one was there and took my time with it. My boyfriend said he bathed with a few other men but no funny stares were given. ||You are given Yukatas (summer kimonos) to wear around the room which was fun to take photos in.||Wifi passwords are given to you on arrival with good speed internet||Our room over looked the main street and pretty government building across the road which was nice!||Around the corner is the busy street full of restaurants and we went to a...
Read moreWe stayed here for 4 nights from Apr 6-9. The hotel is right by Shiyakushomae Station, about a 5 min walk to Teramachi and Shin Kyogoku Shopping Arcades which connects to Nishiki Market and about a 10 min walk to Gion District and from Gion, just a short walk to Yasaka Shrine. The hotel is a bit dated but overall clean. You hand in your room keys when you leave for the day and when you come back, you'll get you room keys along with information where the public bath will be which is either the basement or the 3rd floor. The public bath is overall clean but I would highly recommend that you bring a pair of flip flops to wear in the bath area. We slept with only 1 futon the first night until we found more in the sliding closet, so we added another one which made it a lot more comfortable. Overall, the location is great and there are a lot of eating options even early in the morning (we left the hotel at 7 am and we found a bakery very close by and 24 hr...
