I stayed here this past May, and again in November as I was able to return to Japan for Autumn colors and see additional sites and experiences that I missed before (which also included Tokyo). ||As I said in my earlier review of this hotel, this is a great budget hotel and a great value in an excellent quieter location of Kyoto! It is long-established by the same family, it is modern and very clean and bright with some practical old-school charm, and from what I understand they have many repeat customers such as myself. ||The hotel is maintained and up-to-date (it had a standard U.S. size shower, that is the same as mine in the U.S., and the bathroom was larger and easier to use than my more expensive hotel in Tokyo that I stayed at). Newer, modern plumbing including the sink, toilet, faucets, and updated shelving plus updated pleasant decor that I mentioned in my previous review...and again, VERY clean. ||While there is no elevator, they will carry up your suitcase to the room if necessary. I stayed on the 4th (top) floor, and it had a view of the Museum and Torii Gate of Heian Shrine. You can see this view from the lobby, dining area and outdoor dining area. Also, the staff is friendly and professional and HELPFUL!! (Thanks!!).||I experienced mostly cool November days with some very cold nights in Kyoto. The room was the perfect temperature for sleeping this time of year. I slept very soundly in a super comfortable bed and appreciated the warm comforter. I made my coffee in the room with the instant coffee packets I purchased at 711 down the street (the hotel provides tea packets). The coffee they serve downstairs if you purchase breakfast is really good. They also have a mini-coffee maker near the lobby (I did not use). There is a mini-fridge in the room.||Note that the hotel is very close to many historical sites and that you can walk to many of these sites, including while on quiet morning walks. I also used the convenient bus route is close by and also walked to one of the subway stations. ||This is my favorite Kyoto spot to stay plus I love the area, and someday I know I will...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at Kyto Travellers Inn from July 20-22, and it was an amazing experience! The western-style room I booked was compact but perfect for my needs, complete with a private bathroom, clean amenities, and thoughtful touches like toiletries and a water kettle for tea. Parts of the hotel is adorned with beautiful murals of Chrysanthemum flowers. Plus, the affordability of the inn allowed me to allocate more of my budget for food and souvenirs!
The location is unbeatable—just a short stroll to Heian Shrine and the impressive Torii (Big Gate). I was surrounded by charming shops and delicious restaurants along Nome Street. The AC in the room provided a much-needed respite from the summer heat, making my stay very comfortable.
I initially missed out on the Japanese breakfast on my first morning and opted for a nearby coffee shop instead. However, I enjoyed the delightful Japanese-style breakfast on my second morning, featuring an array of small, delicious dishes—definitely a highlight!
During my stay, I discovered a nearby specialty sword shop that had a stunning collection of real samurai swords from hundreds of years ago. I couldn’t resist purchasing a practice Iliado sword, which is now a cherished souvenir. I also purchased a hand made kitchen knife made by a master knife maker at a shop that only sell kitchen knives. Ask the hotel staff as to where to go. I forgot the name of the shop.
The inn is conveniently close to public bus stops and subway stations, making it easy to explore other tourist attractions. I was fortunate to be there during the Mitarashi-sai (hand washing festival) at the Shimogamo Shrine and the Gion Festival. The friendly staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful, sharing information about the festivals and even guiding us to the festivities.
Overall, Kyto Travellers Inn is a gem in Kyoto, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the local culture while enjoying a comfortable and affordable stay! You will...
Read moreIt was a wonderful experience to stay at the Kyoto traveller's Inn. Comfortable rooms with excellent beds and mattresses that made me rest and have a great nights of sleep. The hotel also has a traditional Japanese-style public hot tub, perfect for relaxing before a perfect night of sleep. During the weekend I stayed, there was a live show of bossa nova and Brazilian popular music at the hotel's own cafe in the lobby. The music was wonderful and the menu of the day offered Brazilian snacks and also the famous Brazilian drink called caipirinha. Everything was perfect and delicious! Lets talk about the location of the hotel, very close to tourist attractions such as Nanzenji Templo, Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavillion) The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto City Zoo and many others attractions...in my opinion the best location to stay in Kyoto. The hotel staff were all very kind and always happy. I was able to ask them many things i need to know, such as vegan and many others great restaurant tips, and get several directions on what to do and tourist spots to be visited. It was worth every minute staying at Kyoto Traveller's Inn. Highly recommend and will be back for sure!...
