I was having an amazing time here until the poor service I received during check out. Let me say the rooms are beautiful and immaculately clean. I was super happy that I got to enjoy such a huge space to myself.
But on my last day - I wanted to check out around 9.30 am and store my luggage so I could take a morning train to Enryaku-ji temple. There’s never anyone at the front desk, and good luck finding anyone at the cafe if it’s closed and locked. The days before, there was a very sweet woman at the cafe front desk who was very helpful, but she wasn’t there on this day.
I tried calling the number they provided but no one spoke English. I was pretty frustrated because I couldn’t check out and would have to walk my bags to another hotel to have them hold the bags instead. As soon as I was walking out with my bags THEN a woman emerged from the cafe, and she seemed more concerned that I was trying to leave without checking out and settling my bill. That absolutely wasn’t my intent, I honestly couldn’t find anyone to help me with my checkout. She offered no apology, but did offer to hold my bags for me in the end. My mom loved the hotel and everything about it. ||Location: it is in a great location where there is a train line that is easily accessible. Nishiki market is just an 8 minute walk and Gion is a 22 minute walk (if you are walking and exploring that is nothing).||Breakfast: the meals were vegetarian and quite interesting. While I didn't always like all the sides given the hotel is always willing to get feedback and add more or less of what you like.
