Just Brilliant!! Has and is everything anyone needs when in Kyoto.
Whatever is important, be it style, friendliness, comfort, cleanliness, technology, homeliness, location! You are covered with Nest. Smart TVs, so you won’t miss you’re beloved Netflix! Or Smartphones to use as a guest around Kyoto, which can double up as a WiFi router! Oooh and the beds, had the best sleep I’ve had in Japan this whole trip. Booked one night thinking to try another night else where but it’s just way too comfortable to think of leaving. Makes you feel like you’re at home. Luckily they had another room available. They’re pretty busy but you hardly see any other guests so it’s really peaceful and so close to everything. Shake Shack if you‘re craving a burger! Or Nishiki Market if you want a buffet of choices. There’s just too many places to eat and drink all around you really are spoilt for choice. English is spoken really well here if your Japanese is croaky and nothing is too much trouble for the folks at Nest. Did I mention free flow of Nespresso, and if you’ve run out of clothes you can do laundry for free! I’ve come with friends this trip to Kyoto. Previously with my partner and previous to that with family and stayed at plenty of places and non have made me want to write a review so please take this into consideration if you’ve gotten this far into reading. FYI, power shower like a typhoon, and some amazing toiletries, love it! Meanwhile easy access from the train station (we came in from Osaka). All in all, I’ve said enough. I know how tedious looking through different hotels can be before booking, but you can go and do what else needs doing before your trip and book this without any hesitation. P.S. Local Cult brand called Undercover has a wonderful shop just a few mins walk and well worth a look and grab a T-shirt whilst you’re there. As always convenience stores are littered within spitting distance of you. Whilst if you need some proper hydration there’s draft Guinness on offer two houses down at the local Irish pub. Gyogo a brilliant eatery does hit the spot with everything they put in front of you too. Enjoy! For reference, stayed in a single then a double room, both wonderfully spacious in comparison to majority of Kyoto hotels.
Note: Sadly left Nest and an hour later in Osaka in a Sheraton. Couldn’t be more of a contrast. From the warmth to the cold. What’s more reminded by three incidents with those from a neighbouring country, why I hate staying at large hotels. Two times kids are messing about. 1P) one kids hits another and the mother comes along, hits the kid for it, looking in disbelief as to why her kids violent (save me). 2R) one kid is throwing pamphlets onto another kids head and just leaves on the floor whilst their parents walk away (save me x2). 3C) A dude is passing about the next flu epidemic not realising his gapping goldfish trap...
Read moreReally lovely small boutique hotel in a popular part of town. The reception staff are very friendly and the rooms are nicely decorated and surprisingly spacious. The hotel leaves a big of free croissants specifically for your room by the elevator on your floor every morning. These are just two small croissants so hardly much of an expense for the hotel but a nice touch regardless. They also have a free self-service washing machine/dryer by reception which was really useful co sidering we exercise a lot whilst travelling so get through clothes quickly! Many hotels would charge for this so it is nice it was free.
The main negative was, for me, hotels that offer such a poor check in/ check out ratio. This hotel was 1500 check in and 11:00 check out which means you're paying for a hotel for only 21 hours. The best hotels Ive stayed in have always been flexible on this to maximise customer experience but when I asked the hotel if we could check in early they said no as they're only a small hotel. During iur 4 night stay we barely saw anyone else and we know for a fact only 2 of the 5 rooms on our floor were ever occupied (the labelled croissants by the elevator make it quite obvious which rooms are occupied). I think this was a missed opportunity for the hotel to show quality customer service. Also, we went out really early one morning (0530) and left the "please clean" sign in the door and when we came back around 0900-1000 itnhadnt been cleaned yer, and we then stayed in our room for the next few hours (as we hiked so early) so we missed the room clean as it has to be done before 12. Once again, the hotel was pretty empty so this was not great.
However overall I still rate the hotel highly and it is valuable for money so I'd still...
Read moreDisappointing Superior King Room. Room was clean and nicely arranged. Bed was large and there was a nice sofa and small desk. Unfortunately, absolutely no storage space whatsoever. No closet, and not a single drawer to store anything. I'm not sure how they expect anyone to organize their belongings in a situation like this. A couple of coat hangers were available but hung along the wall, not away in a closet. I'm not a fan of putting my clothing on the floor or hung up on a wall. Also, no view. There was a large window but it was frosted. Couldn't see a thing. Though the shower was small, it was nicely arranged. Shower water pressure was perfect, but there was almost no water coming out of the bathroom sink. I had to use the bath faucet instead.||My biggest issue was with the air quality in the room. Though the air conditioner kept it cool, humidity was extremely high. I changed the air conditioner setting to "Dry" and this helped a little but it was extremely uncomfortable most days, especially while sleeping. And even though I hung my clothes at night, the following day they still felt damp. Then on my last day, I discovered the reason. Because of the lack of storage I was forced to put my clothing on the floor, and it was all wet. The air conditioner was constantly dripping water and made the carpet wet, creating the high humidity. Not to mention my clothing. It was wet as well. Had I found the reason earlier, I would have definitely requested to change rooms. Unfortunately it was too late. ||I would only recommend this place for a one night stay with one guest due to the lack of storage. The location is quite good, close to Nishiki Market and other stores and restaurants. And transportation is...
