We stayed at Resi Stay Nishiki for two nights and regret it wasn't longer. It really was one of the best places we stayed on our Japan trip. |The location is unbeatable. So many great restaurants and bars down every small street, shopping is fantastic with Nishiki Market at your door step. There are also large department stores and luxury shops on the main street which is also only a short walk away. |We are a family of four and I had been concerned with the check in process at a different location. After arriving from Tokyo on the Shinkansen to Kyoto Station we lugged our luggage and our tired selves to the accommodation. Now having travelled to Japan I would use the luggage delivery services available but we discovered this too late. |Once we got to the check in, the process was so smooth. We were provided with a free shuttle to our accommodation and even a staff member who accompanied us with lots of excellent information on our location and assisted with our check in. Amazing service!|We stayed in room 202 which is up a narrow flight of stairs. So if you have accessibility issues maybe ask for a ground floor accomodation. There are only four apartments in the building.|We were overwhelmed by the size of the accommodation. The bathroom is huge and super modern. There is also an extra toilet off the bedroom. |Our hotel in Tokyo had been very tight so this really felt like a luxury. |Honestly we can't fault Resi Stay. They did their best to alleviate the stress from the check in process and once in you won't want to leave.|Unfortunately I had only booked for two nights and regret not booking longer. We ended up staying in Kyoto three nights but I had to book another accommodation for the third night as Resi Stay was booked out which although nice, just wasn't as good.|We also went to Osaka for two nights but I wish someone had told us how seedy it is. You would be better off staying in Kyoto for longer and going to Osaka on the Shinkansen as it is only a 30 minutes! |If you are considering Resi Stay Nishiki don't hesitate, you...
Read moreMy old boss used to say, "Love is in the details," and this place truly loved us. We traveled from Tokyo to Kyoto with our two kids (ages 12 and 9), the youngest of whom is o b s e s s e d with Sanrio. This room was a surprise for her. What almost blew it is that you check in at the main Resi Stay office near the train station (do yourself a favor and do the paperwork before you arrive to save time), and the van that drove us to the properly was EMBLAZONED with Hello Kitty on the side. Listen, if you don't go to Japan and drive around Kyoto in a Hello Kitty van, you're doing vacation wrong. The hotel is only 4 rooms on a quiet side street literally a one-minute walk from the market. And let me tell you, if you have a Hello Kitty fan in your party... THIS PLACE IS IT. It's clean, huge, and everything from the shower products to the ice cube tray under the sink to the kimonos to the toothbrushes to the hangers in the closet are on theme. There was a full themed gift bag, too! They even rigged up a hand sanitizer bottle to a high-hat cymbal in the main entry way so Hello Kitty can sanitize you on the way in. Note there is no staff on property, but when we had a question, we just called the main office. It's also walking distance to the Gion district and high-end shopping. ||Hot pastry tip: Since most of the city doesn't open up til 11, we were happy to discover that City Bakery is right near the closest entrance to the market down the street which opens at 8am and had incredible coffee and pastries and a...
Read moreThis Resi guesthouse was the most unexpectedly disappointing hotel I've stayed in during my travels over the past few years. I don't use the word "worst" because I couldn't even stay there, and the owner refused to give a refund. As a result, the hotel remained vacant for two days while I had to find another place to stay. First off, there was no elevator. The narrow staircase was long and steep, and with an ankle injury, it was impossible for me to haul my luggage up to the second floor without risking a fall. Secondly, the room had a musty smell and was very dim. I don't understand why it was rated as clean online. The space was so small it made me wonder how it could possibly be worth $250 a night. The service on the Expedia website has also deteriorated, failing to mention that this is a guesthouse without an elevator. Especially since its reception is located elsewhere, making it incredibly hard to find after getting off the high-speed train. After check-in, I had to call an Uber myself, and in that area, Ubers aren't allowed to stop nearby, so I had to walk a significant distance. Overall, we were scammed. It was a waste of both money and time. However, Kyoto in general is enjoyable and worth the visit. Just be cautious of guesthouses with no...
