If you want to try a real Japanese hotel, go here and avoid the Western hotels.
Their attention to service, Japanese culture, and cleanliness exceeds expectations.
As others have said, you must remove your shoes at the entrance. They provide lockers for your shoes which you can put on before you leave. They provide an array of slippers for various uses. You can walk around in your bare feet as it’s so clean. They will take your luggage when you arrive and the wheels/bottom will be washed before it is taken to your room .
They have washers and dryers for use which was a huge bonus as we are on a long trip and planned to walk to do our laundry. The washers are free and detergent is included and in the washing machine. The dryer is 100 yen for 20 mins. I needed two coins .
We did not try the hot spring facilities but they looked great. I respect the Japanese comfort with nudity and wish I had that freedom. The men and women’s areas separate. It appears many of the women use the facility as their primary place to get ready in the morning . They provide toiletries and hairdryers . Use the basket in your room and bring the towel from your room.
The breakfast was good but is mostly Asian with a few options for western breakfast but that is typical unless you stay in a western hotel like the Hilton. It helps to use your google camera and the translate feature to understand how to use the coffee machine and translate other Japanese words
The rooms were comfortable but extremely warm. There is an AC but it didn’t cool the room much. The halls were much cooler than the room. That was my only issue with the hotel.
The pillows in the room were super firm but if you ask the front desk, they will provide you softer pillows.
The 10th floor has free ice cream bars which were great!
It’s a fun way to...
Read moreI needed a place to stay overnight in Matsumoto when I found myself stranded there. This Hotel, and it's staff, far surpassed my expectations. I've been in the hospitality business nearly my entire adult life, working in resorts, hotels, restaurants... I've traveled extensively; staying at many, many world class establishments. Located less than a 5 minute walk from Matsumoto station, the Hotel provided services I would expect from other options at twice the price. Rooms are not large, but perfectly kept. Trust me, I know a poorly maintained room when I see one. There are complimentary soft drinks available upon check in. The self serve laundry room was free to wash, and only 100¥ for a 20min dryer use. The Bath on the top floor was perfect, and not to be missed. Plenty of shower/washing stalls. Large indoor hot soaking pool, another hot pool outside in the open air, a sauna, a cold pool. I didn't feel uncomfortable (as a foreigner) for a second and there are easy to follow, simple instructions on how to use the facilities (also in English, so read and follow them). Soaps, shampoo, razors, shave cream, and other amenities are all provided for all to use. Everything was clean and the bath experience was just heaven. In addition, there is complimentary ramen for a snack (not a large meal) after 9:30. It was delicious. Seriously. Also, on the bath level, there is a freezer of frozen treats for all guests (parents, pay attention: free ice cream) The staff was courteous and very professional. You can pay a lot more for just a little more luxury, but I don't know why you would. I absolutely recommend this Hotel if you want to stay close to the station. And I personally thank the staff with all my heart for assisting me in my...
Read moreStayed 1N in a Non-smoking Double room (booked direct with hotel), with Plan Northern Alps view / High floor guaranteed plan!! , as we came from Takayama, and had planned to conquer NakaSendo's Torii Pass at Narai with an early start next morning.
Pros Hotel is a 5mins walk due north to Matsumoto train / bus station. Smallish room, but technically XL x2 luggage would be possible Walk-in shower, good water temp / control / pressure Double window sealing (but both can be opened), train noise not an issue at all, with blinds as well as it can get pretty warm in afternoon (direct sunlight in spring) Buffet breakfast was a good spread (eg DIY sashimi bowl, tempura station, soba station, small plates dishes aplenty); supper time ramen was a nice stomach warmernfor bedtime/ post onsen Tatami system in hotel means your shoes off at lobby (individual locker system), and go barefoot or slippers on; also, wear the in-room yukata if you want for meals! At rest area outside onsen, free milk yoghurt in the AM and popsicles at the PM
Cons Breakfast gets crowded pretty early, very fast - go before 8am Decent sized onsen on top floor, outdoor onsen is small, views are nice, but limited Location is further south vs downtown area, a good 15min walk Lobby is small, can be hard to find a good space during check in
Overall, hotel offers excellent value for what it offers, although location might be a bummer. With regards to the Northern Alps view room plan, view from room did felt nicer given higher floor on 8th, alps view is really far away in...
