Perfect Family Onsen Stay with Baby - Ryotei HanayuraWe stayed here with our 9-month-old baby and it was amazing! Finding a Japanese onsen hotel that actually welcomes families with young kids is super rare, but this place was perfect for us.What Made It SpecialPrivate Onsen in Room - This was the best part! Having our own hot spring bath in the room meant we could relax anytime without worrying about disturbing other guests or dealing with public bath schedules. The water comes directly from the hot spring and was hot but comfortable. The private outdoor setting was awesome!Large Public Baths - The main onsen facilities were beautiful with different types of baths . Open from 2pm to 9:30am next day, so lots of flexibility.FDining - They do kaiseki-style meals at breakfast and dinner where you pick your breakfast and dinner time slots at check-in. The food was excellent and they accommodated our dietary needs without any fuss. When we needed to change our dinner time one night, they were totally fine with it.Turndown Service - While we were at dinner, housekeeping would set up our futon beds. Such a nice touch that we didn't have to worry about room setup with a tired baby.Family-Friendly Features•Free baby equipment rental: bath chairs for onsen, regular high chairs, diaper bins, changing mats•Staff spoke English and were super helpful with baby needs•Tons of parking space (no stress with car seat and stroller)•Traditional Japanese room with tatami but baby-safeThe RoomTraditional Japanese style with wooden floors and tatami areas. Mini-fridge was great for baby formula and snacks. Room slippers provided. Everything was clean and well-maintained. Our room had 5 futon beds and a private open-air bath.Location & Practical StuffLocated in Noboribetsu Onsen, Hokkaido. Ryotei Hanayura is part of Toho Resort group - you can check out their other properties at tohoresort.com/english/. Easy parking with multiple levels. Clear signage in multiple languages. 24-hour front desk if you need anything.Bottom LineThis is probably one of the few authentic luxury onsen ryokans in Japan that truly welcomes families with babies. The private onsen alone makes it worth it, but the flexible service and genuine hospitality made our stay memorable. We'll definitely be back as our little one grows up.Perfect for: Families with young children wanting authentic Japanese luxury onsen experienceNot ideal for: People looking for adults-only...

The in-room onsen is the ONLY advantage for this hotel, although the price paid for this is NOT worth at all. ||||||I am a frequent traveller to Japan and I visited Japan more than 20 times in the last 5 years, and I am very familiar with onsen and Japanese room.||||This is the WORST experience I have in Japan. I paid 171,800 yen for 1 night (family of 4, with dinner and breakfast included). ||||The staff esp the restaurant ones are HORRIBLE. ||||We paid for the full Japanese set dinner and they are rushing us to finish every single dish within 3 minutes and then keep asking, FINISH? FINISH? FINISH? This is totally unacceptable, similar to fast food shop in Hong Kong. Finally, after the table accumulated 5 unfinished small dishes for all four of us (20+ plates on the table), I requested to talk to the duty manager to make a complaint and then suddenly, the staff slow down and try to explain every single dished to us.||||The same happened the next morning during breakfast, although not as "rush" as the dinner. ||||In general, I visit Japan approximately 4 times a year and very familiar with onsen and Japanese room. Regarding the room, the is the smallest luxirious room I have ever countered. Usually with this price in Japan, I am getting about 1.5 to 2 times the size.||||I rarely write a long review but I really want to show other travellers that, if you are looking for a relaxing Japanese full set of dinner, please DO NOT choose this hotel. I am sure the restaurant will disappoint you. ||||I also made a formal complaint to the hotel and the reply is, they don't know this has happened. This is never my experience with high end Japanese Hotel in the past. ||||Overall, I WOULD NOT recommend this hotel at all. If you want to find a budget one, you will not be interested. If you are looking for high-end hotels with very nice and peaceful Japanese dinner like me, you will be disappointed also. ||||I hope this review can help people in making...

Words are not enough to describe how good our experience was at Ryotei Hanayura. Yes, the property is old, but that’s the charm of this place. The room is spacious and beautiful, the view of the mountains covered in snow is gorgeous, the sit out area next to the onsen bath in the room is also a great spot to just sit, relax and admire the beauty of Noboribetsu. They give you complimentary water and stock the fridge with beverages and some drinks (beer). They also keep some sweet snacks in the room daily. They make the room in the morning when you go for breakfast and then turn down the room when you go for dinner. It was very well planned and organized. The Kaiseki dinner is amazing and if you stay for 2 nights, you get the private dinning experience on the 2nd night, which is just spectacular. The breakfast is also wonderful. It is never crowded because of the slots that each room selects while checking in. Now coming to the best part - the ONSEN. They have private onsens (separate for men and women). The outdoor onsen is just amazing…especially when it is snowing… they have 5 baths for women. The locker room is spacious and big. They also provide access to other public baths, however, outsiders cannot access the hotel’s onsen - which was one of the reasons for us selecting this hotel. The second was the onsen in the room, we used it multiple times during the day. There is also a souvenir shop on the ground floor, which also has standard konbini items. The location of the hotel is central as well. The staff was nice and courteous, i read some negative reviews about them not being very good at english. As travellers, we need to be mindful of different cultures and understand that everyone’s native language is not english. There are ways to communicate, be polite and appreciate the effort being put in.

This ryokan had a charming old-fashioned style, and one notable aspect was the excellent English proficiency of the staff, which made communication smooth and easy. I stayed in a room with a private hot spring bath and opted for a package that included one dinner and one breakfast. The ryokan itself was a bit dated, but it was well-maintained. The room still used a traditional key instead of a key card, and the overall decor and furnishings had a classic Japanese style, predominantly made of wood. The hot spring bath in the room was already filled with water when I arrived, and it maintained a constant flow of fresh hot spring water, allowing guests to immerse themselves in warm, rejuvenating water at any time. There was also a capsule coffee machine and a refrigerator stocked with various beverages, including beer, all included in the package. On the table, there were traditional Japanese snacks and tea for guests to enjoy. At night, the room transformed into a sleeping area with futon bedding laid out on the tatami floor. The staff would come and prepare the futon while you were having dinner, creating a cozy sleeping space. One highlight of the ryokan was the delicious food. The meals provided were of excellent quality and taste. However, if I were to mention any downsides, it would be that the ryokan was indeed quite old, and there were instances of insects flying into the room. Additionally, the price was quite high considering the overall experience.

I book the traditional room with a private outdoor onsen and it was a wonderful experience. Even before going to Hanayura I was already happy since originally the hotel policy was to have a minimum 2 person per room policy. Fortunately Agent managed to contact the hotel and they agreed for my single occupancy. So happy. I took the hotel shuttle from Sapporo TV tower which only cost 1000yen. This is super convenient. Staff were all polite and helpful. Dinner and breakfast timing had to be confirmed during check-in for preparation. For the traditional room, they would arrange for futons during dinner which very convenient. Dinner and breakfast was lovely. No complaints. I fully enjoyed relaxing in the room with complimentary snacks and drinks in the room. Kept soaking in onsen then drinking and snacking. Wonderful rejuvenating time. I even went to the main outdoor hot spring. Since I had a private onsen in the room, I hardly left the room except to eat and strolling within the hotel facilities. Room was comfortable and clean. It has fully utilities including love yukata compete with socks and moisturiser since we dehydrate during hot spring bath. Payment was made during checkout. The hotel was kind enough to store my luggage for me after check out for me to walk around town. Everything was wonderful and would love to come again.
