When we booked this lodge we were told that it was on the cheaper end of the scale and our expectations weren't high. However our week at Kirakuso was amazing! The owner/family were super accomodating and the entire experience was really great||Location is 10/10, only a 2 minute walk to the Karasawa chairlift and 5 minutes into town. Also close to the Swiss bakery which was a regular after-ski stopover. The rooms are Japanese style but decent size, clean, warm and comfy with enough storage and great mountain / village views. Requests for extra futon mattresses weren't a problem and they even had a laundry service. The shared toilets, wash room and onsen/bath room were all clean, welcoming and lovely.||Breakfasts are included and were full of everything you'd need. Fruit, yoghurt, coffee/tea/juice, eggs, pancakes, bacon, chicken tenders, hashbrowns, toast and other western delights along with a selection of Japanese options.||The lounge/guest room is large and comfortable with lounges, benches floor seating and a couple of fireplaces. We had a big group of 10 and there was plenty of room for everyone to relax and chat before and after skiing. There's also a good ski storage room, drying room and change area downstairs, making it super easy.||Highly recommended and...
Read moreWe stayed here having seen zero reviews but we lived it. The Sato family keep the place beautifully clean. We stayed in both ensuite and no ensuite rooms. I prefer the beds in the tatami room as the western style beds in the ensuite rooms were quite hard. All rooms are spacious and the bathrooms across the hall are clean and plentiful. We bathed in one of the 13 public onsens each night so we hardly used those facilities. There is a welcoming fireplace in the lobby ....a traditional idori room to chill as well as an ample drying room for ski gear. Washing machines and onsite onsens were bonuses. Breakfast was buffet style western and Japanese - all excellent and just what you need to fuel up prior to a day on the slopes. ||The lodge is across the road from Villa nozawa and run by them for bookings etc. A minute walk gets you to the chair lift and the centre of the village is only an easy 10min walk. We have booked again for...
Read moreWe stayed at Jurakuso as a family of 6 sharing 2 x 3 futon tatami rooms. Each room was large with 3 comfortable futons in a row. The bathrooms are shared but very clean. Bathing is in the basement with a shower option as well as the traditional Japanese bath (superb). Washing machines are available and a lovely lounge area with a coal pit for warmth. The breakfast is prepared by the host family with plenty of both western and Japanese options for all tastes. Kirakuso is located about 150m walk from the ski lift, a great location. The host family are very kind but do not speak English which we didn’t find to be a problem. We loved our stay...
