I loved my stay at the Zentis Osaka. I thought all of the spaces were beautiful and thoughtfully designed; the decor felt polished and refined, but unfussy. Bed was super comfortable and room was very spacious by Japanese standards. The overall vibe is definitely catering to Westerners but you know what, I'm a Westerner, and it worked on me haha. This was easily my favorite hotel I stayed at in Japan, and I will certainly stay here again the next time I'm in Osaka.
I didn't get the breakfast included in my stay but decided to pay for it separately one morning. I got the Japanese-style breakfast and thought it was really memorable; and I am an avid enjoyer of nice breakfasts, so I don't say that lightly. Probably would have felt less special if I had had it every day of my stay, but as a one-time affair, it was really a special treat. Had a cocktail one night as well while I was waiting for my laundry to be done and it was tasty, though imo overpriced – you're definitely paying for the atmosphere as much as for the drink itself.
Location is neither particularly convenient nor particularly inconvenient. There are several different subway lines within a 10-15 min walk, along with the "old" Osaka (as opposed to Shin-Osaka) and Umeda train stations, but nothing right around the corner from the hotel. I'd heard the Kita-Umeda area described as the "business downtown" of Osaka as opposed to the "tourist downtown" centered around Namba and Dotonbori, which felt about right – there were plenty of options for food and drink in the area, but it was a little bit removed from the standard sightseeing checklist. Not a dealbreaker unless you want to be able to walk home from Dotonbori in the wee hours of the morning.
Only thing I thought was a little weird was, as others noted, there's minimal privacy in the bathroom area. My room did have a privacy curtain that came down from the ceiling to block off the shower area, which I wonder if other people missed; but, at least the way my room was laid out, there was a full-length mirror that offered a clear view into the bathroom area even with the curtain down. Not a problem for me as I was traveling solo, but might have been awkward if I had been...
Read moreBe careful ! Mould in bedroom !!! The window in the rooms can’t be opened and the exhaust fan is almost inexistant. As the space is small you get condensation on a glass window almost immediately after a 5 min shower and after a long night ( even more if it’s cold outside). The water droplets are stagnant on the metal window frames 24h/7 . Mould found at the bottom of the curtains and sheers after day 2 ! I was chocked ! And now I m concerned about the effect it will have on me as I already had sinus congestion and coughing issues when I arrived at the hotel.
I m concerned about the mould that you can’t visibly see!!!! It is well known that it can bring diseases to breath in a mouldy environments (see attached pictures).
You’ll also can find mould in the shower grouts!
Saw splashes of coffee near shower walls and behind the main door .
Not privacy for shower … neither for the toilets as it’s not soundproof!!!!!
Laundry : the 3 machines are left closed so they smell and have mould inside !
Too hot in the corridors upstairs… no refreshing air!
They should give a spare big towels for women ( how do we dry our hair !!!!!???)
Positive points : bed is comfy , pyjamas and sleepers are handy to have . Water bottles supplied for free in bedroom, quiet hotel . Apple TV & Netflix ! Near by: amazing ramen across the road , family Mart 1min walking , subway not too far . Available coffees machine in hall and laundry. Gym is small but great option to have.
I found the staff friendly . The decoration is lovely , very modern and cosy .
We had a cocktail at the bar and it was delicious. Pricy though…
Continental breakfast is around $40AUD which seams very high!
Hopefully this post will help the management to take action regarding the mould . I have also mentioned to the receptionist at the...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here for 5 nights back in November 2023. We loved the location of the hotel - close to subway station and 15-minute walk to Umeda. Considering the amount of food we had, I think the walk just justified having more food :)
We upgraded to a corner room during checkout. The room was tidy and as mentioned in hotel magazine for its uniqueness, the interior aesthetic is definitely worth pointing out. It came with a bath and it was totally worth it! It’s a shame that windows were hazed so we couldn’t see the outside.
The amenities were average but did have everything we needed. Shampoo was a bit harsh for both of us and I’m not very picky with shampoo.
There was an ice station on our floor which we found interesting. But it was actually great because we’re used to having ice-cold water morning and night. They have cups which you could fill with ice.
Every staff were nice towards us. They explained things well during check-in. All of them were somewhat capable of speaking English. Each time we entered and left the hotel, they would greet us. It would have been nice if they were smiling during interaction. Nevertheless, they were helpful with enquires we had about facilities and our stay.
They have all the facilities that any hotel would have - laundry which is self service, a spacious lounge on the ground floor. They also have a bar on the second floor which we did not have a chance to try.
There is a Family Mart just a minute away from the hotel. It will come in handy particularly if you like having a can of beer each night 🤣
We would consider staying at this hotel again in the future. For the price, I think it competes well with...
