We were very much looking forward to our meal here due to the positive reviews on Google. Unfortunately, we had a very poor experience. We made a reservation for 5pm and were the first ones seated in the restaurant. We ordered the recommended assorted sushi plate, recommended assorted chirashi bowl, and a salmon & ikura bowl. The salmon & ikura bowl arrived first, and as soon as I looked at it, I saw a small fly crawling on top of the ikura. I notified the chef. He made a brief apology and took the bowl away. About 5 seconds later, he came back with the exact same bowl but without the fly. The ikura and other contents of the bowl were the same. We didn’t want to be rude, and we tried to be understanding of the fact that some small restaurants have fruit flies and other things flying around, so we continued with our meal. When my chirashi bowl arrived, I found the portion to be quite small for the price (¥4000). Some of the fish were very fibrous and did not melt in the mouth as expected. The raw abalone was extremely tough and had hard edges that I couldn’t chew through. The ikura were by far the worst - they were tough and solid, did not burst in the mouth, and had a rancid flavor that wasn’t savory at all. I hate wasting food, especially sushi, but I spat out the ikura and just couldn’t swallow it. I was shocked, as even the ikura at conveyor belt sushi chains are better than the ones I had at this restaurant. The rest of the fish were mediocre at best. The only ones that were somewhat enjoyable were the uni and salmon. Needless to say, we were severely disappointed and will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone.

An exquisite hole-in-the-wall sushi place. We were the only tourists and there were other locals having dinner when we reached. The 4 of us ordered the different sets of sushi (about 8 - 9 pieces per set) which were all very fresh. The uni and botan shrimp were amazing and definitely the highlight of the meal. The sushi chef and his wife were very friendly, and despite the language barrier we felt very much welcomed as we enjoyed the meal.

Excellent sushi restaurant run by an older couple. The skills of the chef is the real deal and the ingredients were all fresh. They have an English menu and the chef was very accommodating to foreigners. He even guided us on how to eat (sauce or no sauce, how to apply the sauce).

After I read reviews here, I visited the restaurant with excitement against my family members who wanted to go to the sushi street. It turned out to be a big disappointment. The place smelled un-fresh fishy smell when we entered. The food was not bad, but mediocre. The biggest disappointment was the owner's attitude to our children. The place had only 10 seats of Tadami style. We were 10 people including 4 children. It was only around 5 pm on a weekday and no other guests were there. Our kids (bet. 9-12 yr)were talking each other sometimes giggling, just like any children, but definately not a fuss. But, the owner got so much irritated and frawned and hushed looking at them in a hostile manner. We could tell he was very upset, although he didn't say anything directly to us. I saw his faint smile only at the moment we paid. He even didn't say "Iryatsaimaseh!" when we entered. I wouldn't recommend...

The chef was very friendly and kind. He explained which parts he was serving and how to eat them whenever he served us. One might feel that the food is quite expensive but considering that the food in almost all restaurants in Otaru are very pricey, this sushi place is not that bad. Indeed the sushi plate was great and I was satisfied with it. Also, I thank him for helping me to find my smartphone. I left my smartphone there and realized it after a while. When I went there again at very late night, I could see that he waited only for me to give my phone back and he apologized me again and again (while he did not do anything that he might feel sorry to me). Thank you very much for doing so for me and I apologize any inconvenience I...
