So far my worst hotel experience in Japan. We arrived at 8:30 pm to find the reception deck empty, even if it is specified in the email that there should be someone until 9 pm. The door was thus closed, and despite the code we received on the booking email, we didn't find a way to open it. Luckily there were people inside that opened for us. Once we entered, no information about how to navigate in the building but we managed to find the room. There are no elevator in this hotel and not a lot of space, so be careful if you have luggages. The "kitchen" was a small room near the counter containing a fridge, a microwave, and a kettle. The glasses were dirty and I didn't find the sink for the water anyway. While eating dinner, what I think was the staff arrived. They were really rude, not a greeting but harsh interactions with the guests instead. This is the only moment during my stay where I saw staff. The room we booked consisted of one bunk bed, with literally a mattress on the floor. Finding the bed not dressed finished to piss me off, there is absolutely 0 effort from the staff. The night spent was also terrible, since there is no isolation. I am kind of used to capsule hotels in Japan, but here even walking is noisy and source of disturbance. I absolutely DO NOT recommend this place. I give 2 stars for the price and the relative cleanliness of the place, but if you find something else, just...
Read moreI don't have much good to say about the place. They took a checklist of how to make a guesthouse and made the cheapest possible choices. Staff is almost never there, the owner is moody, there is no proper locker, only something you can fit your purse in, internet is slow. Etc..
Now two things i particularly disliked. The first one isn't horrible, but it got me to understand where i was, and who i was giving money to. It is located on a small street between building where snow piles up, making it hard to walk and drive. It is Hokkaido so nothing weird about that. The neighbour of the guest house got stuck with his car, so i got in and told it to the owner so that we go and help him. He never reacted, never moved, even though he wasn't busy with anything. He simply didn't care. Another guest ended up coming with me to push the car of the poor guy.
Second thing, they let us do the bedmaking. Again the place is cheap so i don't really mind putting the effort. But some guests dont bother and use the futon as it is. So futon smell of the prior guestS. Yet they don't give you the proper sheets and you have nothing to wrap your cover in.
All in all, knowing now who they are and how they work, i regret my choice. You have other friendly hostels and guesthouses in Sapporo, i would advise to choose...
Read moreGood guesthouse, with almost brand new elegant furnishing, mainly made of wood. The manager is friendly and speaks good English. The common living room and the kitchen are on the ground floor, the bedrooms upstairs, with common bathrooms and showers. I had a very small room, even for Japanese standards with very little space for my luggage; the second thing I didn't like was the room's door without lock: I had to use lockers to secure my stuff. One good strength of this place is the position, just besides Odori park, quite close to the subway station and to the streetcar stop: with one of these means of transport you can easily reach every famous place in the city. If you are willing to visit Sapporo riding a bicycle, as I did, the guesthouse will rent you one for the whole day...
