We decided to travel to Shirahama for a might while staying in Osaka. We quickly booked a room from the train, without looking too much at location / competitive rates / hotel facilities.||We booked through another website for two adults, and after completing the transaction, was asked to pay twice as much. We are still unsure of the final charge, as we weren't able to cancel, and the english was the worst yet.||We got a traditional Japanese room with two futons. Super clean room, but not the best sleep. We have lightweight camping mats that offer more comfort, and those are the light uncomfortable ones.||The balcony had a foot bath, and sit in tub. So, that means a pine box, that has hot mineral water, perpetually flowing through it. Never having seen this before, was not accustomed to the amount of scale and mineral build up. Bit creepy.||The basement had a large onsen, and shower area. The owner took us down, and instructed us to use one of the two rooms for ourselves, and lock the door while in there for privacy. That was fun / funny experience. The showers, are a hand sprayer, a plastic bowl, and a plastic seat. ||And, the location. Halfway up a very steep hill, take a cab! If you can communicate effectively, they have a shuttle, and will pick you up / drop off. We were walking back up the hill after dinner, and the driver spotted us, so no walk! He was a madman behind the wheel, it was pretty much a mountain rally stage, with a Toyota mini-van!||Summary;||Stay there again? Sure|Stay in the Japanese room? No way||Probably better hotels, with better facilities, and better prices (off-season ghost town), but we...
Read moreMe and my wife celebrated our anniversary here for three days. It's the most wonderful retreat style hotel. Get away from it all here. We enjoyed the personal bath and private spa maybe a bit too much. The staff are incredible and the views are very nice. Although she didn't speak English she fully helped us get accommodated and found dinner for us on two nights. Don't worry about the walk up the hill because they have a driver who will take you down into town and pick you up. Overall out of the two weeks we spent in Japan this was the highlight...

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The staff is very helpful and nice. The place is not close to the beach but the view at night from the private terrace is super relaxing. My partner and I spent the night on the terrace, chatting and eating junk food. The room is great, although the whole structure is visibly old. There are humidity stains over the window's blinds. Sadly.
The bath, with private onsen, was unusable. The dirt of that tub scared us all. So, we only used the shower.
Would I go back? Sure! But I hope they improve in hygiene. If it got worse, then it would be the last time for us to go there.
Overall we spent a nice time. The bed is huge, there is also a mini fridge. a share microwave is available for...
