Check in took a loooong time on our second stay. Tired after all the walking and hauling luggage with a baby carrier through the subway, shinkansen, and a taxi (almost 5 hours from Osaka), my 2 kids and toddler grandkid arrived to a new check in system in place that should have taken a few moments to complete but almost ended in an altercation with front desk. ||I had booked 3 rooms for my family (my kids and grandkids, a total of 12 in all). We stayed here for 3 nights at first, then went to Osaka, then came back. My group arrived ahead for our 2nd time. ||The older English speaking male receptionist first said that all of us in the booking had to present our passports before my group could be checked in (which was impossible at that time since 4 were in Disney, and the other 4 were still on their way to the hotel).||Then he took some time to find my name in the paper and screen shots I presented. When he found it, he said I could not be checked in yet. According to him, I was listed as guest and it was my daughter who was the main booker. ||What? I was the one who made the booking and merely placed my daughter’s name as the occupant of the first room. ||Good thing she arrived after a while; at that point I was seriously considering transferring to a different hotel with a better receptionist. ||I insisted on showing him the Booking.com email addressed to me and the app in my phone. He said he did not know why it happened that I was listed as guest. ||Isn’t everyone who reserves a room through a booking app a guest of the hotel?||Except for this check-in, I would say Comfort Hotel Higashi-Kanda is clean, comfortable, conveniently located (5 to 8 minutes walk to the metro or subway). Many restaurants and convenience stores are in the area. There is free breakfast and luggage storage. ||Stubbed my toe a couple of times. There is little space between the beds and the desks.||The other staff were helpful...
Read moreThe hotel itself was nice and the rooms were more spacious and modern than a lot of other local hotels. The free afternoon snack and drink time had very nice red bean cakes and the selection of tea and coffee was excellent. Just keep in mind that unlike other Comfort Hotels in the area, breakfast is not free. I didn't find out until check in because when I booked it, it was still free. However, a week before I checked in, the hotel rebranded from a standard Comfort Hotel to Comfort Hotel ERA and breakfast became chargeable. |The hotel's location is also not the most convenient if coming from public transportation. The closest JR station is Bakurocho and unfortunately, the closest exit does not have an elevator so you will need to pull your luggage up 3 flights of stairs from Exit 2 of the station and then still walk 6 blocks to the hotel. Otherwise you'd have to walk underground 6 blocks in the opposite direction to the Toei subway Bakuroyokoyama station to access the elevator and then walk back 12 blocks to the hotel. I've also stayed at the nearby Comfort Hotel Higashi Nihombashi and although the closest exit from Bakurocho station also only has stairs, at least that hotel is right outside the exit so there's no extra walking after leaving the station, and breakfast is still free there. This time I picked this hotel (Higashi Kanda) for the larger rooms and free breakfast at the time I booked. However, since there's no longer free breakfast, I will probably go back to picking the Comfort Hotel Kanda as that is closer to JR Kanda station which has an elevator so it's easier to transport your luggage and still includes free breakfast. The JR Yamanote line at Kanda station is also more convenient for tourists than the JR Sobu line at...
Read moreI visited here for ten days in June 2025. It was a reasonable enough accommodation. The hotel room I was staying in was quintessentially Japanese, in a good way. It had a fairly compact bath, and a toilet with a built in bidet. It was also possible to heat the toilet seat. The kettle was capable of keeping the water hot for quite a while after. The room also had a fridge. There was a shower also. The bed was comfortable. A TV was also in the room.||Every day room service would change my bedding and make the bed. Fresh towels were provided. The hotel also had free nightgowns in the hotel lobby, along with a variety of other useful items, including razors, hair baubles, cotton buds etc.||I had breakfast included in the price. The breakfast encompassed a lot of things. There were cooked savoury dishes plus the usual breakfast fare, i.e. smoothies, fruit, cereal, pancakes. There was a pancake making machine which allowed you to see the pancakes being made right in front of you, which was novelty.||The breakfast was decent enough for the price, i.e. average. I had no complaints. All of the staff were friendly, including the staff at reception. I had a generally comfortable stay in the hotel. ||My only issue was that there were no stairs available other than the fire escape stairs. Given that the hotel was very busy, and that the lifts were often very busy during breakfast hours, I think it would be good to give guests the option; but this is a small issue.||The hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff were all polite and professional, I...
