I have been going to Okutama for over 10 years. It has a special place in my heart and mind as a secret getaway from Tokyo when I need peace and nature. I thought I knew all of the cool places here but when I stayed at Kityokawa Guest House, I felt like I unlocked something truly special and new that I can come back to at any time. Kazu and his staff are amazing, kind, friendly, and genuinely interested to getting to know you. The rooms are comfortable and cozy, and give you the feeling you are in the mountains. When one comes to Okutama you want the local vibe, not a 5-star hotel. This is the best place for that! The guest house itself is over 100 years old, from the Meiji Era. It’s has been beautifully preserved and maintained. You won’t get this kind of vibe in the city. The guest house is also right next to the river which make sleep a beautiful thing. You can gently hear the water as it passes over the rocks. Truly amazing and not overwhelming in sound when you need to fall asleep. The last icing on the cake is the common area in the guest house doubles as a local snack bar. You can bring your own drinks or Kazu and his staff can whip up a cocktail for you. I’ve lived in Japan 18 years, and Okutama never gets old. I hope you can enjoy it one day.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2D1N while we explored Okutama. It’s great value for money if you’re just looking for a clean place to stay in the area. Very cozy house and friendly staff! Got to meet some new people. Restroom and showers were also clean and well-maintained. They have a shared kitchen where you can prepare some coffee, tea, or simple food like cup noodles. You can also keep some stuff in their communal fridge. There’s also a cute cat that roams around the house. I had a hard time sleeping due to the hard floor (futon on tatami), but that's understandable since it is a traditional Japanese set-up. Walls are quite thin so you can hear people talking and laughing up to late at night. I appreciate that the curfew for being noisy was well-enforced, since the noise stopped at 12am sharp.

This is a cozy old wooden place right next to the river , the staff and host are all friendly and nice, that makes you feel very cozy and like home. Its only few minutes walk from train station, and there are two convenient store around. There are shared living room and kitchen which you can cook and hang out. I'll definitely love to go back again next time!

Wonderful place with amazing people and great service. Location is very close to the station. It's best place to spend your night and meet some great people on your journey. Staff speak sufficient English if people struggle with Japanese. You have all amenities that's needed for a peaceful stay. Overall 10/10 place.

Note : if your staying over night, don't miss out food at the small izakaya Shin Chan(fujiko San), she cooks...
