This is HARDLY a 5 star hotel.
We paid over $400/night to stay in the “Bay Club” rooms thinking this would be an extra special experience. Not so much.
Breakfast: 2/5 the food was lackluster and about the same as a basic Hilton hotel in the US. Bacon, eggs, sausage, like 4 options for bread, salad, and salmon. Also clam and leek soup. It was the same every day.
Service: 2/5 They had 5 elevators, all of which were constantly full. Seeing as the access to the bay club floors are restricted and on the top 3 floors (23-25), we constantly had to make SEVERAL stops with jam packed elevators in order to get to our floor. While that’s fine in any other hotel that’s maybe 3-4 stars, most 5 star hotels I have been in provide exclusive elevators for those floors. Pretty unacceptable for a price difference of $160 a night to someone paying $400 or more for a luxury experience.
We were promised a butler… it was just a guy at a front desk 2 floors above us.
Room service was not 24 hours and had horribly inconvenient hours. You have to order before 7pm if you want dinner that night, or anything special for breakfast the next morning. No food service after 8pm. As someone visiting out of the country and trying to explore the city until late, not really convenient. (Once again, don’t forget they are claiming to be a 5 star hotel.) Most hotels at the 5 star caliber provide around the clock room service.
Bay club also closed at 9pm. That’s fairly early by most standards.
I will say, all the staff were nice.
Room: the view? 5/5. The room? 3/5. While the same size as a standard hotel in the US, and giving grace to the fact it’s Japan and rooms are normally smaller, I won’t dock points down for the size. It IS on the larger size for Japan. BUT. The shower was okay. Cracks in the shower door allowed for flooding of the floors after a shower. They even put up a sign saying that would happen.. (Once again, remind yourself: 5 star hotel.) The bidet was outdated (oldest one out of all the hotels we stayed at in Japan). The toiletries were also super cheap compared to the other hotels we stayed at (all 4 star hotels). I would not say the hotel room provided any extra amenities outside of a standard room to justify such a price discrepancy between a basic room and the “bay club floor”.
I guess we got a news paper every day? Not sure if that’s standard on the other floors.
It seemed like there were a few times we were in the lobby and it seemed like a few other people were complaining to the staff about having a similar experience… so this doesn’t seem like an isolated event.
They offer a shuttle to the airport… but shocker: make you pay for it. For this price, at MINIMUM, should have complimentary for a Bay Club stay.
Location: 4/5. We didn’t want to be in Tokyo, so the location of Yokohama was actually pretty nice. Google doesn’t really tell you all it has to offer, just wander and get lost. The location of the hotel is really good for that. Easy access to the train lines. Easy pick up for Ubers. Lots, like SO much, within walking distance.
Once again; kindly remind yourself this is based on the fact they claim to be 5 stars. I have stayed in MANY 4 star hotels across the world that did better than this 5 star one.
If you want to stay here, I would save your money and book the lowest floor possible and pay 1000 yen to ride the Ferris wheel across the street to get the same view from the hotel floor we stayed on.
I hate leaving negative reviews like this, but when spending your hard earned money and expecting to get what you pay for, you just don’t get it here. I would look elsewhere at this price point($400+ USD). If you are looking for a nice hotel, low floor, convenient location, book the standard room for the ~$160...
Read moreAbsolutely wonderful! This was our pre-cruise hotel, we stayed May 2-6th, 2025, during Golden Week. We had booked really early through our cruise line. I was pleasantly surprised that the hotel responded to all my inquires within a few days, recommending the airport limosuine bus for transportation and options for getting a tour guide. For our room we chose the Bay Club Floors, staying on the 23rd floor, which enabled us to have access to the Bay Club Lounge which we visited and immensely enjoyed every day. I did extensive research on the surrounding hotels and chose this one for not only its location to the cruise port but the shopping, restaurants, tourist attatractions and closeness to the train stations. There is access to the mall via this hotel which is great if it is raining-lots of stores and restaurants which we loved.
First, the airport limousine bus from Haneda Airport stops here, which is so convenient. Upon drop off the staff greeted us right away and helped us with our luggage, escorting us to check-in, which for us was on the 25th floor. Check-in was fast and easy, everyone was super helpful, telling us where the stores and restaurants were. (As a side note, we did visit the lobby check-in on the 2nd floor and again, everyone was friendly, helpful, even helping us to print out our luggage tags for our cruise.) Our room was very nice, spacious, clean, modern, and the bathroom was spotless with lots of amenities. I had read so much about the Japanese toilets and ours did not disappoint!! My husband wants to install those in all our bathrooms!
As I said previously there are so many restaurants and shopping close by. Taxis were also readily available if you were just too tired to walk to your destination. We did 15-20k steps daily.
The entire hotel staff was excellent with impeccable service, especially on the bay club floors. Even though we made sure to learn some Japanese, had Google translate readily available, alot of the staff knew english. They made our stay a memorable one, and their hard work and dedication to detail can’t be overstated. We loved the daily breakfasts and nightly receptions at the Bay Club Lounge. The food was always great and the views were stunning. A shout out to Mr. Hiroaki Hyodo, the hotel operations manager, for making us feel so welcome, and leaving such a lasting impression on us. He was so down to earth and easy going. We hope to visit Japan again and most definitely will be staying here. We highly...
