I was super happy to be there but I take away one star due to one reason written below. Yufuin was beautiful, especially the misty lake at dawn. Ichizen was comfy and I enjoyed their onsen water a lot! I wished I was there for another day! The food was great in my opinion. Both dinner and breakfast were tasty. I love food... Kaiseki style dinner was on point, all very healthy and impressive. Little things like even the sesame seeds had different colors. The breakfast was good that I got another bowl of rice. I take away one star because there was one weird thing out of this perfect experience. The staff who greeted me and my friend ONLY faced my friend and initiated conversation to her at least 4-5 times during our stay. I noticed it after a few times and I felt uncomfortable when it continued until the next morning (breakfast). That almost ruined my breakfast and our pricey trip. that was a weird flaw I experienced at Ichizen. I'm clueless why it happened after trying to be understanding. I made the reservation and I was sitting away from the entrance ("important person seat") and it's not like my friend and i look like a mother and a child (we look like friends) so I can't think of any reason why he would be ignoring me (literally turned his body never saw his face). So I take away one star and it's a shame that I would be even the tiniest bit reluctant to book next time due to this experience. Everything else was very much enjoyable. I wonder if other people had similar...
Read moreIchizen is an onsen hotel with each room having their own private onsen (hot spring bath) attached to the building. Every room is separated so that no walls are connected between each of the buildings where you are staying, so you get a sense of privacy and tranquility here. Breakfast and dinner are served to you in the fancy kind of way where it'll be a unique menu made for your room. All of the foods were delicious and filling! The staff was extremely kind and professional. I don't speak Japanese, but I do speak English and Vietnamese, and the staff that was helping us was able to speak all three languages! They were kind enough to ask which language we would prefer to get the tour in as well! Ichizen is located towards the top of a hill, so I would recommend getting a taxi to take you up if you're carrying a lot of luggage! The hotel is in Yufuin, and the town itself has amazing views as well as plenty of restaurants, museums, gift shops, and an entire floral village nearby to explore. I was here for two nights and one full day and barely scratched the surface of the area. I definitely recommend coming to Yufuin and staying at Ichizen. The staff was kind and professional, and the hot springs, both private and public, were amazing on the...
Read moreIt's our second time visiting Yufin and we're lucky to come in the late autumn and enjoy the view of red leaves. Found this lovely ryokan on the booking.com, room with private onsen and half board. ||||The Ryokan locates about 800m walking from the Yufin center, around 10 minutes taxi ride to the Yufin train station. The road leading to the ryokan is very beautiful and worth a walking. You can choose the luggage delivery service in front of the train station and they'll deliver your luggage to the hotel around 400 yen per piece. ||||We had our Japanese style room named 桔梗. The room is clean and comfortable especially with the private outdoor onsen. The original onsen is 75 degrees and be careful to add cold water into it. Although the staffs are little bit hard to communicate in English, everything will be fine with body language and writing / drawings. ||||The meal is fantastic with beef, sashimi and various local specialties. The local Yufin beer is very nice. Breakfast is also well prepared, traditional...
