Four of us stopped overnight in two rooms April 2018. The room was massive by Japanese standards and excellently appointed. The highlight was the huge bathroom and the stone roten-buro ( open air onsen ). Complete privacy is assured so bathing can carried out as it should be done Japanese style, with no fear of being overlooked even for prudish Europeans. ||The evening meal(washoku style) is provided in a private dining room located inside the main building and was excellent. We opted for japanese style breakfast to, although a western style breakfast was offered. ||The staff were extremely helpful even though their English is very limited and made us feel at home.||This isn't a cheap stay but for the cost it offers a taste of true Japanese overnight stay in with an air of tranquility and calm. Read moreLocated in a quaint little town which is about 1.5km away from Yufuin Station. Everything was perfect about this little Onsen Hotel/Inn and the food was beyond words could describe! The only downside was to get to and fro the hotel from Yufuin Station. Taxi will set you back ¥800 per way. Bus will only take you about 750m and you got to walk the rest of the distance upslope to the hotel.On the day of departure from the hotel, we pre-arranged a taxi to pick my wife and I up at 8.40am for our 9.07am train to Kumamoto and we were only informed that all taxi bookings were full at 8am. My wife and I had a hasty but tasty breakfast before making our way downslope, onto the Main Street to Yufuin Station.
