TAKEYA — Hotel in Yufu

Great little Ryokan just off the Main Street heading into Yufuin village. The room we had was on the ground floor, with a separate private hot spring bath, dining/sitting room and spacious bedroom. It was modern, super clean and smelled of fresh cedar wood. We were glad to take a break from our campervan for the night and have a relaxing private bath. It’s at the end of a narrow, short street, so if you have a large vehicle, check the parking situation first. We ended up leaving our campervan parked up on the main road, almost directly opposite the turnoff. But it was fine, and free. I reserved a room online without any issues and overall we had a lovely quiet night and relaxing stay, after walking around Yufuin village which was insanely busy with tourists on the afternoon we arrived. The evening meal was a lovely beef, mushroom and vegetable hotpot, I think it’s called Shabu Shabu (?) and breakfast was Japanese style. Both included in the room price. Lovely experience at Takeya, the owner and the staff really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. When we arrived, we had not yet eaten lunch and immediately the owner offered to drive us into town, even though it was walking distance. We had an amazing experience at 竹屋! The location couldn't be better – literally steps from Yufuin station, and there's a charming 'secret path' connecting it directly. Having a private hot spring bath right in our room was a huge plus, and the shabu-shabu dinner was absolutely delightful.
