We loved the interior design. It was a surprising but tasteful combination of traditional Japanese ryokan and Bauhaus style furniture that reminds me of a kissaten. We were welcomed by Bill Evans jazz album in the background in the lobby as we enjoyed our welcome snacks. The dining room was beautifully furnished. We chose a Japanese style room, and there was a kotatsu (Japanese heating table) in our room and as it was only 2-3 degrees in Yufuin that day we thoroughly enjoyed using it!
The downsides: we were surprised that guests are asked to prepare their own futon beds... The mattresses are heavy so I doubt elderly guests would be able to lift them. Also checkout time is 10am, which is earlier than most places.
Unfortunately there's no private onsen for booking, but there's a cool open-air rooftop onsen with a great view. Although location is very close to the JR Yufuin Station (13min walk) it's an uphill haul if you want to drag your own luggage to the ryokan like us. We had breakfast only and it was absolutely beautiful. Taste was great, although all the dishes were cold... Would appreciate some hot dishes as well.
All in all a cool experience, would recommend for those looking for a unique and tastefully designed ryokan that's different from the typical...
Read moreI stayed for 2 nights in Mar2025 and received impeccable service, I ate well, rested well and slept well.
I choose the Japanese style room with a mountain view and had a relaxing time soaking at the onsen. They had 3 different area of public bath and I enjoyed the rooftop onsen the most, I even woke up at 6.30am to catch the sunrise with Mount Yufu.
The lounge area is so aesthetically pleasing, really calms your soul and allows you to chill and unwind.
I went for half board and food was excellent, presentation and taste was perfectly executed, I was so well taken care of by the hosts and I hope to come back again ^^
Japanese hospitality at its best, will totally recommend Ryokan...

The location is a little isolated but the facility is quite good and staffs are very kind, which is a standard for Japanese hotels though.||||Food was nice and onsen was spacious and nice, especially the hinoki bath on top was a very nice experience for me. ||||I strongly recommend this ryokan for tightly budgeted, but want to experience the ryokan culture...
