Olivier Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Almaty

I visited Olivier for dinner with my date and we had a very disappointing experience with the service of the restaurant.

We had a booking and they sat us outside, unfortunately it seems like they were not ready to have any guest in the terrace. They didn't have any staff working that area and we had to wait ages to be taken care of. The rest of the evening was a succession of missteps that left us underwhelmed to say the least.

I had to order 3 different bottles of wine because the first 2 were unavailable, but rather than letting me know beforehand, the waiter would come back each time after taking the order with the bad news. As a result, we got our wine with the mains followed by the bottle of water we had ordered at the very beginning.

We ordered a starter and a main each and my date was served her main before her starter while none of the courses arrived together, this was a first for me.

At least the food was good (I really enjoyed the veal cheeks) but given our final bill of 50k tenge (4 dishes and a bottle of wine), the whole experience was definitely not worth it. When charging that much, you should at least make sure the service can follow up and deliver a good experience but that was not the case.

I ordered the Russian salad (which was quite delicious), but received a hot appetiser (molten camembert) an hour later with a fish dish. When asking why this happened and why there have been so many delays, the staff struggled to explain what happened and eventually stated that all hot starters are served with main dishes - in this case the stark contrast was cheese with raspberries and fish…

This place definately deserves a five star.

Professional waiters, very tasty food, fast service, cool athmosphere, nice surrounding and comfortable chairs.

The food is definately expensive than average. However the quality here by all means makes you think it deserves. We tried burgers and sushi roll. I must confess thst sushi was not worth to that price tag however burger was a legend.

I recommend you this place for date (if you pay together 😁) or for special occations.
