A 5 Star Hotel is defined as one providing flawless service, in a state of the art facility. The Sankara Nairobi was an Epic Failure. Their service was reproachable and their facility was not quite state of the art. I checked in on a Wednesday for a week stay. When I arrived in my room I called housekeeping and asked for more hangars. I went out and when I came back late that evening they had never delivered the hangars. The next day I was out on a Safari all day, so I didn’t have a chance to ask for them again. On Friday, when they came to clean my room (which was scheduled every other day due to COVID), I asked the maid to please bring me more hangers. Once again I went out, and when I came back that evening, I still had no hanger. I also notice that they never emptied the trash can, nor did they take away all the water bottles (6 glass bottles). On Saturday morning, as soon as I woke up, I went to speak to the manager on duty and reported to her the poor service I was receiving. Housekeeping finally came to empty the trash, and after three days, brought me more hanger. On Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. I went to the gym. While the gym is open 24 hours, the staff turns off all the electrical powered machines at night. Since I was the first that morning to arrive, all the exercise machines were turned off so I had the Executive Lounge call the front desk and ask to send someone to start them. 20 minutes later I went into the executive lounge and asked them to call again. 15 minutes later, I called myself. After waiting for 45 minutes someone finally showed up. STATE OF THE ART FACILITY: That evening I decided to stay in and watch a movie. I tried to connect my mobile device to the “smart” TV, and it didn’t work. I called for help and after more than 30 minutes and engineer showed up. Of course he could not connect it, but said he would come back in the morning to fix it. He never returned. The gym equipment is modern and can also be hooked up to the WI-FI and cable TV network. Doesn’t work. Went to use the Sauna, and it was turned off, but the person who runs it was not available to turn it on. For six days I went to their buffet breakfast, and only the sixth day did someone greet me and offered to bring me a cup of coffee. The rest of the time I had to run down one of the waiters. Mind you, it was mostly empty every time. All their problems can be attributed to one thing. Poor service and...
Read moreThe staff are the hotels best asset, the beds are fresh and clean and the housekeeping are very attentive. The bedroom furniture it tired and aging and carpet not so clean..but that's more to with age than dirt. Otherwise you will enjoy a good quiet night sleep. The shower and towels are perfect..the bathroom roomy. Windows in room do not open...which is a pity. There are USB and uk and eu sockets which is good. Storage for suits etc is limited...wardrobe is a bit small. ||The food offerings on menu are reasonably good but very pricey ( minimum 20 euro for burger and beer?). The breakfast is hit and miss. I'm not into the cheese and meats thing..but they didn't look great anyway. Most of the hot food offerings in large copper bays is cold or lukewarm. But you can order fresh cooked egg options and there are other offerings like roti and Asian food at breakfast too. There are plenty of good coffee options and a good fruit and yogurt selection. A small outdoor terrace is available for outdoor dining which is pleasant enough for a city hotel rather lacking in any outdoor space at all. There is a small pool..think pond..on the roof with an outdoor terrace but no real views. A small gym has a range of equipment but frankly the ceiling is a bit low. But it's ok for a short work out. ||For Vips, there is a decent enough lounge on the 7th floor, it's ok for quite moment during the day. And you can grab a free coffee or mineral...they offer a small buffet and cocktail which is frankly a a bit of a rip off with a meagre two hour offering between five and seven.... The food often feels and tastes like second rate and is often cold or gone before u can blink. You are far better off eating out that forking up to 80USD daily for this unimpressive offering ..access is free with more expensive rooms..so you pay one way or the other.||As I said the staff are lovely..but I don't know what account system they use at reception but they are painfully slow..so be warned.||The hotel is well located close to sarit mall which has lots of shops and diners and a few bars also. You can walk...do..get the fresh air.||Sankara is decent but it's a typical ageing bonvoy hotel and way too expensive for what they think they are. It's more 4 star than five star and there are some better options in Nairobi these days.||I think I said it already..but at least you will be assured of a good night sleep when it's...
Read moreThe Sankara is strategically nestled in the capital city of Kenya just minutes away from Nairobi National Park, world class shopping, the business district and surrounded by incredible restaurants. This hotel by far lived up and exceeded every expectation. The staff was responsive to every request, warm and friendly. The Sankara itself provided incredible restaurants, a cocktail lounge on the 7th floor, full gym with steam room and sauna personalized services, modern amenities, and a 24 hr full-service room service.
Each air-conditioned room features a flat-screen TV with cable channels, ironing, water boiler, coffee pot and a refrigerator. Dry cleaning and laundry was same day return. The en suite bathroom includes free toiletries, bathrobes, and a hairdryer. The rooms had a stand alone shower and deep tub for soaking. Both had great water pressure, maintained temperature and left me feeling refreshed and relaxed.
After a long day of sight seeing or meetings, guests at Sankara can relax with a cocktail, enjoy a gourmet dinner at the on-site restaurants or arrange the next day's activities with help from the hotel's concierge staff. If you need an item for an excursion, there is a shopping plaza next door with over 50 stores, including a grocery store. The hotel used state of the art electronic and physical security for guests, but not intrusive as I’ve seen at other hotels.
This hotel was modern, highly clean, centrally located, and provides world class service. I would highly recommend staying here. I have stayed in hotels all over the world, the Sankara has made my top list. Thank you Sankara, my week was absolutely amazing. This was my first time to Kenya, you set the foundation...
