Visiting Lietuva—Lithuania—is like stepping into a living tapestry woven from centuries of history, culture, and natural beauty. Nestled on the eastern edge of the Baltic Sea, Lithuania enchants visitors with its rich heritage, vibrant cities, and deep historical connections with Poland that shaped much of Eastern European history. One cannot speak of Lithuania without mentioning Vilnius, its charming capital, where cobblestone streets wind through one of the largest and most beautiful Old Towns in Europe. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Vilnius captivates with its baroque architecture, soaring church spires, and hidden courtyards. Places like the majestic Vilnius Cathedral, the mysterious Gates of Dawn, and the serene Bernardine Gardens invite contemplation and admiration. The Hill of Crosses near Šiauliai is a spiritual marvel—an overwhelming landscape of thousands of crosses placed by pilgrims over centuries. It symbolizes the indomitable spirit of the Lithuanian people through occupations, wars, and rebirth. Lithuania's cultural treasures also extend to Trakai, a fairy-tale island castle nestled on a lake, once the seat of medieval Lithuanian dukes. The Trakai Castle is more than a monument; it's a time capsule, whispering stories of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania—a state that once stretched from the Baltic to the Black Sea. And here lies the profound bond with Poland. For centuries, Lithuania and Poland were united in one of Europe’s most powerful and enlightened political unions—the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. This historic partnership fostered not only military and political strength but also an unprecedented cultural and intellectual flourishing. Figures like Adam Mickiewicz, revered by both nations, embody the intertwined spirit of Polish and Lithuanian identity. Today, walking through Lithuanian cities, one often hears echoes of Polish influence—in the architecture, the cuisine, and even the language. This shared past has not faded; it has evolved into a deep-rooted friendship, reflected in joint cultural projects, academic collaborations, and mutual respect. Modern Lithuania is a vibrant blend of history and progress. Its art galleries, such as the MO Museum, and music festivals like Klaipėda Sea Festival, celebrate both tradition and innovation, inviting the world to experience its cultural heartbeat. To visit Lithuania is to touch history, to admire resilience, and to embrace a culture both proudly its own and gracefully shared with its Polish kin. It is a land where the past is honored, the present celebrated, and the future...
Read moreA deeply disappointing and unsafe experience at Radisson Blu, Vilnius
I recently stayed at the Radisson Blu in Vilnius, and I am appalled by the experience. On Saturday night (3am Sunday morning), I suffered a severe allergic reaction in the room. My entire body broke out in hives, my throat started to close up, and I began losing my voice. My partner went to the reception in a panic, asking if they had any anti-allergy tablets. While I understand they’re not allowed to hand out medicine, the lack of any practical assistance or compassion was frustrating. Thankfully, my partner managed to find a 24-hour pharmacy and bring back the medication in time.
The following day, we went to reception to address the issue, explaining my severe dust allergy and presenting photos and videos as evidence of the shocking state of the room. There was a thick layer of dust under the TV and more dust in other areas, clearly showing the room hadn’t been cleaned properly. We spoke to the same man from the night before, who didn’t bother to apologise. Instead, he called housekeeping in front of us and asked them (in Russian) to clean under the TV in room 816. I speak Russian, so I corrected him, saying it wasn’t just under the TV that needed addressing – the entire room was filthy and needed proper cleaning. He nodded and said “okay.”
We left the room to give the cleaner space to do her job, but when we returned, the dust under the TV hadn’t been touched. It looked as if nothing had been cleaned at all. Considering I had already informed them of my allergic reaction and the seriousness of the situation, this negligence is completely unacceptable. The manager didn’t check to ensure the job was done properly, and the issue was simply ignored.
To add insult to injury, when we checked out the next morning, the reception staff didn’t even ask how our stay was – a clear indication of how little they care about their guests’ wellbeing.
The rooms were advertised as “allergen-free,” yet they were disgustingly dirty and unsafe for anyone with allergies. The lack of accountability and basic care for health and hygiene is appalling. I left feeling unsafe and deeply let down.
This experience has completely shattered my trust in the Radisson Blu brand. I have other bookings with this chain, but I will now be cancelling them – I simply cannot trust that this won’t happen again. Avoid at all costs if you value your health and a decent standard of...
Read moreI stayed 3 nights in Hotel Radisson Blu Lietuva (Vilnius) mainly for work (end September 2024). This was my second time staying in this hotel. It has been a very good stay again. The hotel has a good location.
There was nothing I missed in the room (besides maybe slippers but this really is a minor problem). TV in the room has a streaming feature but didn't seem to be compatible with my (Belgian) services. Remote control wasn't working due to a dead battery, something housekeeping should check. Besides that the housekeeping is excellent!
The breakfast buffet is excellent, and also offers tastful à la carte dishes freshly prepared on the spot. The staff at breakfast is very helpful. Also at the front desk, the staff is friendly and professional. Upon checking in, a small paper or card with general information (practical information, opening hours, emergency numbers, room service, spa rules, etc.) could be extra useful.
The use of the spa and gym area is included during the whole stay and this really is a big plus to me, it's always great to unwind after a busy day.
During my stay there was an unexpected and major IT and Wi-Fi issue but the hotel has apologized profusely for the inconvenience, which I really appreciate.
My general experience with Radisson Blu is that the chain gives extra attention to members of their loyalty programme "Radisson Rewards" which is not different in this hotel and so very pleasant. However, as we had to check in at night and there was a long queue, the "priority" check-in desk for Radisson Rewards members remained not in use. When I wanted to pay at the lobby bar, I was surprised to be told that the beverage discount for members was not valid on alcoholic beverages.
The rooms in the newer building are spacious and very modern. You definitely get great value for money! I do hope to visit Vilnius again soon, and to have another chance...
