We spent 1 week in one of the rooms and overall we had a good experience. The best part was the location (in coral bay) and the incredible views of the ocean 😍! You can also use the stairs to go directly to the ocean if you are in the cabins next to the sea (we were in room 12). Good value for money (60RM/night in April). The room was a bit basic but it had everything we needed. We brought our own mosquito net and this was a good idea - the rooms already have nets, however, the net that was there had some holes. Towels are provided but you need to bring your own toilet paper, shampoo and soap. The sink was broken, and half of the water would spill onto the floor. The cabins are in the middle of the jungle, which is really cool; however, as a downside, there are a lot of animals in the room (spiders, gueckos, ants, mosquitos, etc). We also had visits of rats every night, and some squirrels in the balcony, so make sure you put all your food in the plastic cabinets - this is something we learned the hard way on the first night 😅.

This place is said to be for the tough and pure, lovers of an experience free from any comfort that modern life may offer. In this serene setting, life's complexities are stripped away, revealing a purer sense of purpose and tranquility. This deliberate choice to live simply often fosters a deeper sense of contentment, where the small joys of life—like the changing seasons or the quiet of a forest—become immensely meaningful. People who cherish a simple life, distanced from the hustle and bustle of modern society, often find profound peace and fulfillment in their connection with nature. In their quest for simplicity, respecting nature becomes a cornerstone of their lifestyle, as they appreciate its rhythms and learn from its timeless wisdom. However, the sight of plastic bottles carelessly thrown out of windows starkly contrasts with this reverence. Such actions disrupt the harmony of the natural world and betray the very principles of respect and simplicity that define this way of life.

Know what to expect, and then you’ll have a great stay. It is definitely not luxurious so keep that in mind when booking. However the price is very cheap and the views are amazing. The cabins have character and the view of the sun going down in the ocean is really romantic. However there are some points that could be improved. The bathroom was quite dirty (not cleaned), there is no toilet paper or bidet sprayer, no space to put your toiletries like a shelf or anything. There were still dirty clothes from previous guests in the room. There is no lighting on the path to the rooms so bring a headlamp for the evening. The path leading from the beach to the cabins could also be cleaned up (garbage and plants) so it is easier to walk there. Lastly, we woke up in the middle of the night because of splashing sounds in the bathroom. When we turned the light on there was a rat in our toilet. I’m not sure what the staff could do about it, but it was not a great experience.

We stayed here for one weekday night in the last week of July.

I would say this is a 3.5 accommodation on Perhentian Kecil. We got the biggest 'chalet' which is perched on its own a bit higher than the others and cost RM120 a night. The owner (?) Barry was fairly easy to communicate with via Whatsapp, accommodated an early check in and we didn't have to do a deposit or anything like that. Just showed up at noon and got shown the room and we could decide if we want to stay. It was quite nice and personal, kind of an honor system of booking.

The biggest pros of the place is that the view is amazing. The best we had in Perhentian basically. Our walk up to the place was always greeted with a group of beautiful fluttering butterflies, befitting the name. It is a long trek compared to the other accommodation though so if you have a lot of stuff and don't like to walk, it could be a pain. Quite dark as well in the evening. I didn't mind it, because it also meant the place was secluded from others and very private. The room we got was scrubbed clean with lots of closed plastic shelfs for storage. Water pressure for shower and flush was good. Bring your own toilet paper, and other basics, but there were towels provided.

The con is the obvious one, it's fairly basic, lots of bugs, lizards & whathaveyou. The hardest part to deal with is the 8am - 7pm electricity cut because the heat was brutal midday, especially when there was no breeze...

The place has great potential with a little bit more renovation though, and of course with more constant electricity. But for a night's stay, it was well worth the value and was memorable. Give it a shot if you want a...

From Jetty you will see Senja Bay Resort then from there you need to walk further up more until you see an old chalet on the rock . That's butterfly chalet !|5. You can stop at Long beach Jetty but you need to walk about 15-20 mnts to Coral Bays by jungle trekking.|6. The price is cheap compare with other chalet .|7. 1night =RM100 but if 2 night =RM140/RM70pernight|8. The room is very basic . Whats in the room?|Clean bed sheet . Bed with net. A fan facing the bed . At night you won't feel hot at all. Toilet is clean . Shower gel, kettle, mug etc please bring your own.|9. Electricity is at 7pm to 7am only . Every room only 1 plug can use . Please bring extra power bank then. 😊|10. No wifi here|11. Phone line also quite difficult to get . I use Umobile . No line at all. For me is fine .|12. The best thing at night while you sleep you will hear sound of waves. And morning you will hear birds chirping . At night amazingly not many mosquito . |13. I bought mosquito qoil brand Fumakilla . This was our third time on this accomodation. Last time 3 and 4 years ago. Now stayed more than one month. Price on March 50 rm per cottage. Best views on the island, quiet but close all service on Coral Bay. Long beach is just opening slowly during March as monsoon season ending. Windy there. Rained only few times during the month.||Butterfly is very simple and mostly old cottages (not much maintained), but behind the front row cottages are newer, the newest ones up there approx 3 years old and nice and spacy. Cannot book in advance, only on site, if someone is checking out. Once you get check in, you can stay as long as you like. This system works well! Always full, even on March. Before this we stayed on April. Summer time prices get up.||Currently kitchen in use, very simple with fridge (might no be electricity during day for it). Electricity for cottages during 19-08 hours. Self service for cleaning or changing towels and linen.||Call Barry on "reception building". No official desk. Note that there is no ATM on island. Cash out with 10 % extra on few places. Exchange possible on Bubu or Amelia (Tropical is most expensive to...
